Morning all, What is considered reasonable time to sort out an estate? There isn’t any property involved but just to complicate matters a bit, my sister is claiming there wasn’t a will, despite my mum always saying she had one. Thanks.

prisioner inheritance
I have an uncle that is currently in prison for a hideous crime, I'm the executor of a will and he is a beneficiary. None of the family including me, want anything to do with him. I will carry out my duties as executor but...How does he get the money and items? If I put the items left to him in storage? Who would pay for…

Closing deceased’s accounts
Sorry for so many questions. Mum had 4 separate savings accounts with one particular bank and 2 separate savings accounts with another bank. Of these 6 accounts some had less than £25k but adding each banks total she had more than £50k in each bank. Do the banks look at the total funds held with them or just the individual…

Tenants in common
Hi, I was hoping to get some clarity on a query about my parents property (that they live in) which is owned outright as tenants in common. My parents both have Wills in place that state that in the event of their death, all assets will pass to the surviving spouse. My question is, will a grant of probate be required for…

Add to this, last year my Spouse also lost a Parent and inherited 45k. Mine won't be through for a few months yet, but I'm starting to think through…

HMRC 20-year investigation period
I have taken this quote from a different post which I will not threadjack: "The final value of the estate is presented in the estate accounts, which are given to any residuary legatee, and must be kept for 20 years in case HMRC or anyone else want to see them". I have just completed administration of my late mother's…

Probate Law Complex Sotuation
My sister had learning and physical disabilities, she was left with fatal injuries due to someone’s negligence. We opened a claim as a litigation friend as she did not have the capacity to do this herself. For the same reason she could not make a will and passed away before the claim was settled. My mum then obtained…

Getting a property valuation for Probate
We need to get my late fathers property valued for completion of the probate application. An estate agent out of our area advised us to get 3 valuations and go with an average. She said to not mention probate to avoid any charges being made by the agent and just ask for standard house sale valuation. When I spoke to IHT…

IHT / Probate forms
We are going to apply for probate as my Father in Law has died. Do you send IHT250 and the PA1P application together to the Probate office? The guidance is a little unclear and on the PA form it mentions including an IHT summary form, I presume that means the whole 8 page IHT document? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Is an oath still required?
Can anyone provide some clarification please? Where a personal probate application Form PA1A (i.e. no Will) is being submitted by post rather than online, are the applicants still required to swear an oath? Or has this requirement now been replaced by the 'Legal Statement' that the applicants sign as part of the form PA1A?
