Closing deceased’s accounts

Sorry for so many questions. Mum had 4 separate savings accounts with one particular bank and 2 separate savings accounts with another bank. Of these 6 accounts some had less than £25k but adding each banks total she had more than £50k in each bank. Do the banks look at the total funds held with them or just the individual accounts therefore possibly releasing some of the account funds immediately without a letter of confirmation?

It will be the total rather then the amount in each account.1

And different banks have different limits, so £50k is not is not a 'universal' limit.0
