A potential first time buyer looking for credit card advise...
Hello all, I am a keen money-saver after many years of overspending. I have managed to reduce my debt to £3000 on a 0% balance transfer credit card, my 0% period is ending in April, so I would usually apply for a new one and continue to pay it off gradually, however, I am building a house which is due to be complete in…

Are Barclaycard applications just adverts for Equifax?
I have a good credit rating, and yet barclaycard has rejected every application I made with them over the years. The only thing I get from them is a rejection letter saying I should pay Equifax for a credit report to find out why I was rejected. The free credit report on Credit Karma shows there are no issues and I'm in…

Me Having a 0% Card but taking the balance from my wife’s Credit Card

Pay for delete? With credit card companies?
Is this a strategy that's likely to work with credit card companies? Any research I find on this strategy suggests it can only be used with debt collection agencies. I'm currently on a DMP with a creditor as was unemployed but just got a job and expecting a comparatively big pay cheque next month. Annoyingly the agreement…

I’m on an DMP, am I obliged to tell my creditor if I start earning significantly more?
Up until now I’ve been allocating some of the money received from universal credit allowance to pay off my credit card balance on a DMP. I just got offered a reasonably paying job however and I start work soon. I assume this would be considered a change of circumstances and so I’m not in the position I was in before when…

Updating a credit file when account is closed
Does anyone know how long it takes for a personal credit file to be updated when a credit card account is closed? HSBC wrote to me in August 2021 to say that as my credit card hadn't been used for some time it would be closed within 2 months if they heard nothing further. As I no longer needed the card I left it for HSBC…

Benefit from having an "Empty" Credit Card?
I spent nearly £3000 on a credit card a year and a bit ago. It's about paid off - £300 which will be paid next month (although still has quite a few months until the end of the 0% on purchases). Is there any benefit to keeping it as "available credit" even though I won't be spending on it again?

Not a Scam but Strange Emails / Results
I'd like to think of myself as pretty savvy when it comes to scams and such but there is something that has confused me. I spent £40 on a HALIFAX clarity credit card at AliExpress. The item was a different size than what I ordered. AliExpress did not uphold the claim - no refund. Spoke to the seller who said I could send…

Pre-paid credit card for nanny
Hi, we have a nanny who looks after our children during the school holidays. We have always had a petty cash box that she can dip in an out of when spending money on excursions, food etc. However cash isn't always accepted anymore, so we would like to get her a pre-paid card instead. I wondered if anyone has any experience…

Aqua closing account - any ideas?
Hi! I have had an Aqua card. In November, I had a heart attack at work and everything bounced. Aqua have now closed my card and forwarded the account onto a debt collector but they are recalling it so I can pay it off with them. Now - here's the thing. They're happy to recall as it is a genuine reason for not paying, but…

Barclaycard Refusing Full Refund
Morning everyone, Back in 2019 I purchased some concert tickets for myself and 7 friends on my Barclaycard (I thought wise at the time given the size of the transaction), then paid the card off immediately. The concert was subsequently cancelled due to COVID and we’ve just found out it’s been rescheduled to a day we can’t…

credit card refunds
All, I have had 2 credit cards in my life - a barclaycard and a capital one card. Capital one has…
