my daughter is going to India for 3 weeks. She cant change money before she goes so it all needs to be put on a card. Is she better off with something like the Halifax Clarity or with one of the travel agent cards? Her plan is to just take money out once a week so that she isnt getting stung by charges on lots of small…

Zero % Credit Cards
I am new to the concept of 0% credit cards and have some basic questions. I am assuming that all 0% credit cards have the same basic conditions but would also like to know if anyone was aware of any difference on the Nationwide Select credit card. This card has 3 months fee free balance transfers. Can I make more than one…

Ensuring you get the MasterCard rate.
Hi there, I used my Clarity card once whilst in Spain and I think I paid in Euros. However the retailer converted this into £ at their rate. I have used the card on many holidays but never had this problem. Has anyone else? How do you ensure it doesn't happen again?

Sainsburys
Hi I decided to do a balance transfer with Sainsburys bank so I applied and filled in all the docs etc. Bit of a silence later I got a letter asking for ID which was odd as I'd received nothing in the package I was sent to ask me to provide this, otherwise I would have bunged ID in the returned docs. Then I was sent the…

Halifax Balance Transfer - use same offer multiple times?
Hi, I have a slightly complicated situation and I'm just double checking I've not overlooked something. My plan is to: 1) Transfer £1k from Nationwide to Halifax 2) Transfer £1.5k from Halifax back to Nationwide (existing balance + the transfer) 3) Withdraw £1k from my Clarity card then transfer that to Nationwide 4)…

Can someone else send payment directly to my Amex card from their bank?
I've paid for something for a friend on my Amex card so I was going to ask them to make payment directly to Amex instead of making a transfer to me to send on. I just wanted to check if this would cause any problems with Amex if a payment came in from a third-party account with my card number details. I've done this in the…

0.5% Barclaycard, Freedom Rewards or actual Amex?
Hello. Classic case of long time lurker, first time poster. I treated my Barclaycard Duo Cashback card as my main card. However, now that's coming to an end, I was wondering which would (out of these three cards) would be the best for me going forward. Does the Barclaycard Freedom Rewards work out better than the soon to…

DD issue?
Interest free period ends in 3 May this year. In March, I amended direct debit to pay in full (rest of amount). In April, the full amount is taken, which is fine. From middle of April until now, I spent on the card (£500ish is the current balance). The amount to be paid in June is £5 to be taken by direct debit. Why is my…

Can't get money transfer?
Hello, About a 4-6 weeks ago I got a Virgin 0% credit card with a limit of about £6.5k. It was 0% interest for money transfers and credit card balance transfers. I sent about £2.7k to my Natwest overdraft and about £3k to my Natwest credit card. Now I'd like another £6k of money transfer to pay off a debt (not credit card…

£5k barclaycard and £4.5k sainsbury's - Advice for closing
Dear All, I have tried to research what I can about closing credit cards, but I don't feel I have an answer to my query. I have two credit cards. £5000 Barclaycard and £4500 Sainsbury's. Neither have a balance and I went through a stage of using my Barclaycard weekly, sometimes clearing the balance immediately, other times…

Student credit card
Hi all, I am interested in getting a student credit card because I have heard that by virtue of having one, my credit score will improve. I don't need one, nor will I use it, I think. I would use my current account debit card for purchases and ATM withdrawals. I would only use the credit card for big purchases, to avail of…

Spending Last Dregs of a Gift Card
Really not sure if this is the right forum for the question. A family member gave me and my partner £150 in prepaid Vanilla Mastercard gift cards when we bought a house together. We haven't found any bricks and mortar places that will accept them, although we have used some of their value on line. The problem is that we…

Cashplus....long term benefits
Hi My friend at work did have a bad credit history and a while ago, about 20 months took a cashplus card. I'm not convinced that these are any good, he took the credit builder loan from them and paid it back and now continues to pay 5.95 monthly fee and sometimes uses the overdraft facility...75p a day. Over the 20 months…

Visa or Mastercard gift card
Hi forum I would like to give a prepaid Visa or Mastercard as a gift. This means I will "apply" and load some cash but I need the card details in another person's name. This is for them to use when travelling to Mauritius if that makes any difference. I would like this to be delivered to either my address or the recipients…

Unsolicited NetSpend debit card
Ive just found an unsolicited email in my inbox thanking me for opening a 'NetSpend' debit card account and inviting me to login to explore my exciting options. 1. Have I had my identity stolen? 2. Is this a phishing scam trying to get me to login and confirm I exist and/or give away bank account details. I have googled…
