in Credit cards
Hi I decided to do a balance transfer with Sainsburys bank so I applied and filled in all the docs etc. Bit of a silence later I got a letter asking for ID which was odd as I'd received nothing in the package I was sent to ask me to provide this, otherwise I would have bunged ID in the returned docs. Then I was sent the same docs to fill in again with nothing to ask me for ID again. Fed up with this I thought about cancelling. I emailed their customer services and got batted back to their phone line instead. I decided I'd had enough and went down to Sainsburys in person this Friday and used their phone to call their bank to cancel the whole thing. Meanwhile I went to my own bank Santander on Friday to do the balance transfer with them just to make life easier. On Saturday I checked the post and there was a Sainsburys credit card. I'm worried now that this might make me look like I'm trying to be fraudulent or something if my bank goes in and finds the transfer has already been done by Sainsburys who wanted ID before proceeding then went ahead and proceeded anyway. :eek:Any thoughts on this? I did tell my bank about Sainsburys and that I'd cancelled. I'm usually excellent with my banking and this has really annoyed me.:(

Not odd. They had no way of knowing they would need ID from you until they processed your application.
You need to check with them whether the account is now cancelled or if the BT has been carried out.
I don't see any concerns for fraud though.0 -
Never been asked for ID before on the last transfer or the one before that but I guess something must have triggered that request. Could have been a change of address possibly. Yes I'll enquire tomorrow re the BT. Thanks 0
