Bad advice from MSE on improving Credit History!!!
After stumbling across MSE's article on what to do and NOT to do to improve credit files, I found myself on a credit card eligibility checker. MSE explained that applying for a credit card and being refused detrimentally affects your credit file and that, "We do a 'soft' credit search which YOU can see, but lenders CAN'T,…

Barclaycard, reject then accept
Hi. I applied for a Barclaycard last month and was rejected. I then applied for mbna and nationwide and they both accepted me, and gave me ok credit limits(£9000 and £5000), I then applied for a barclaycard, and they accepted me and gave me a £5000 limit. Sounds crazy.

Accidental Missed Payment Halifax Card
Hi Guys. I have checked my Halifax Mastercard statement this morning and was alarmed to discover that I had a missed payment notification on my credit card. I was under the impression that I had setup a DD on my account to make the minimum payment each month and am confident I have a letter at home confirming this. (I will…

Credit card interest made me go over limit
I've just received my credit card bill for the month which is over the balance limit and includes a fee for it. Thing is, it was (just) within the limit and then the monthly interest made me go over the limit. Are credit card companies allowed to do that?! I thought I could spend up to my limit and then so long as I paid…

Did MSE recommend the Capital one Aspire world card around the end of 2012?
I had the Amazon card, and around the end of 2012 start of 2013 got the feeling the card might be discontinued. As their previous card issued by Halifax had been. So I got a capital One card. Well as others have mentioned in the thread below it finally happened. The card was discontinued. So I already had a card sitting in…

Paying a paypal 'gift' with interest free credit card.
Evening all, I've recently been accepted for a Tesco Credit Card with 19 months interest free on purchases. I intended to use this for buying a car and paying it off gradually over 19 months, however I've ended up paying cash for a car from a private seller. I am now looking to see if it's possible to somehow move 3K from…

Debenhams closed our account without telling us
We went to use our Debenhams card recently and found at the till that the card was invalid. We have had this card for over 35 years! On contacting NewDay, their new finance company who had taken over from Santander, they at first told us that they didn't recognise our card details as they didn't exist! I spent about 48…

Barclaycard rant - zero trust
I'm new to the forums, however I feel I must share my experiences with Barclaycard. I see many forum users have had poor experiences with them, and although this is terrible, I don't feel so alone. I applied for a Platinum Barclaycard at the beginning of October this year, and transferred two balances - one from Capital…

Rejected for 0% BT card HELP!!
Yesterday I took the plunge and applied to Halifax for a 33 month 0% balance transfer card and was surprised to be rejected as I had checked my credit rating and score with Check My File and had a score of 897 from Callcredit and 900 from Equifax but have not yet been able to check with Experian as my PIN is in the post. I…

Santander 123 Acc.
I would like to know if it is better to wait until Jan 2015 to wait for the new gov.bonds coming in to force or transfer my maturing Isa (in a few days time ) to another Isa immediately. Should I hold on to my Isa status or go for the Santander 123 account with 3%* interest and cash back on certain direct debits. I am 65…

Interest on casg withdrawals, explained please?
If you have an interest of 2.5% monthly to be added daily on cash withdrawals then that confuses me. Is t daily or monthly. Please explain. If you withdraw £80, what is the daily interest if the monthly interest is 2.5%, surely there is an easier way to get this across to us mere mortals. E.g. £80 for 30 days, what is the…

Do I have a good chance of getting a new credit card with a decent limit?
I am thinking of getting a new CC with a 0% purchase deal in the coming months, as I am planning to have some significant expenditure from March onwards. My concern is whether I already have too much credit and thus I might be accepted for a new card but might be offered a small credit limit (I would like to get at least…

Sainsbury's Credit Card Activation
Hi all, Hopefully someone can help me. I received my new Sainsbury's credit card this morning however because I am an idiot, I threw away the strip of paper on the card with the information on activation. I was wondering I anyone knows the automated line for activation as I cannot find any information online. Many thanks,…

0% interest balance reshuffle, can I please pick your brains...
I'm doing my (every 18 months or so) reshuffle of credit card balances moving them on to new 0% balance transfer cards. Its unfortunate that a lot of my current 0% deals have finished at the same time so although my current debt is not rising, I have needed to apply for 2 new CC cards this month. I did get them though. I'm…

Trying to lower credit card interest
Hi. I'm trying to lower the cost of my credit card debt, but when I go through the eligibility check all I get are the cards that have higher rate interest than the one I have. I have been called twice about a loan at way lower rates from my own bank, which is part of the group that issued my card. Should I look to doing…

Card Fraud at Petrol Station
Hadn't used my Visa card for a couple of weeks when I bought fuel, within 12 hours over £1600 had been spent online. I thought it strange when the girl replaced my card in the reader, saying I'd put it in the wrong way, seemed the same way to me. Police and Visa seemed to take little interest, almost a normal occurence. I…

Halifax Reward Credit Card
Hello, Does anyone know if the Halifax Reward Credit Card (£5 back each month) still exists and I have looked on-line and cannot find any mention of it. I am looking for a replacement cash back card for when my Santander 123 card runs out after year as it is not worth it with the annual fee.

Credit Card Cancellation - does it affect section 75?
Hi there, So I have paid a deposit that was over £100 on a holiday with my credit card. However, I am considering switching banks which I think will force me to cancel that credit card, as it is a student credit card and I will be closing my student account. So if I cancel this credit card, am I still protected for this…

Vanquis Credit Card
Hi All, My elderly neighbour rang me this morning to say that she had received a credit card in the post form these people. She said she was "pre approved" in a letter last week. She ignored it as she wasn't interested. Are the allowed to just send her a card she didn't order? It seems a strange way of operating. I haven't…
