Vanquis Credit Card

Hi All, My elderly neighbour rang me this morning to say that she had received a credit card in the post form these people. She said she was "pre approved" in a letter last week. She ignored it as she wasn't interested. Are the allowed to just send her a card she didn't order? It seems a strange way of operating. I haven't seen the card yet but Im assuming its real as has expiry date for next year she says.
What is going on?

Thanks

  • I'll reserve my judgement until you've seen the card and can confirm that it is real and not just a marketing tool.

  • Hi, my Mum (aged 78) got one too...

It wasn't a real card, but a letter saying she had been pre-approved for a Vanquis card with a credit limit between £150-1000 depending on status.

The card attached was just a laminated cardboard one with no name on it and the card number was something like 1234 0000 0000 0000 and on the back it states very clearly "this is not a real credit card".

She was suckered in completely (to the point of cutting up the card as she didn't entirely believe me) but only until I made her read the letter...

They'll keep sending your neighbour letters every few months until you tell them to stop. Had a family member whose never had credit keep getting Vanquish ones every 3-4 months too

How pre-approved are these? Surely there is no such thing? I just got one and wondering if it will be THAT easy to get one, as I may be able to make use of it.

My credit is crap right now fyi.

Does it say pre-approved for a card or pre-approved to apply for a card? They can be sneaky with their wording.

    Ha:
You have been PRE-SELECTED TO APPLY for the Vanquis Bank Visa Card

They actually put it in caps as well, guess they have to.
I assume its just random.. I'm not sure where they got my details from, particularly at this address.

They'll have bought your details from Experian, most likely. It's not random, as Experian will have identified you as a likely prospect for them.
