Credit Card Cancellation - does it affect section 75?

Options
Hi there,

So I have paid a deposit that was over £100 on a holiday with my credit card.

However, I am considering switching banks which I think will force me to cancel that credit card, as it is a student credit card and I will be closing my student account.

So if I cancel this credit card, am I still protected for this holiday having paid for it with a credit card even though that credit card has been cancelled?

Thanks

In theory yes but expect them to wriggle like anything of you make a claim. You need to be hard nosed if need be.

You may not have been protected in the first place! Check if your circumstances fall into one of the exceptions here...

Just for info, it's not necessary to pay over £100 deposit...any amount will do. It's the item cost that needs to be >£100 (subject to the aforementioned exceptions/exclusions).
  • Switching banks does not mean you HAVE to close your present credit card.

It may be if it is a card offered as part of a package based on certain circumstances, which seems quite likely given what is written in the first post.

However, it makes no difference to the legal position - s75 (if eligible) still applies even if the account is closed.
