Daft question about Standing order/faster payment details?
Sorry this is probably really obvious, but if I have a standing order set up to pay something X amount a month but I want to make a one off payment of a larger amount. Is it the same sort code and account number to make a faster payment as the standing order? Thank you

Bank don't believe me about fraud!
Between Christmas and new year I had 4 fraudulent transactions on my debit card (Easyjet, BA and national express and a car hire company). Another transaction was attempted but the retailer was suspicious and phoned me up so it didn't go through. HSBC said they would refund the money, which they did but now they are saying…

unauthorised transaction/fraud. What happens?
I am retired and my bank is my home page and I check my account every day. A few days ago I noticed an unauthorised withdrawal of over £2k from my visa credit card account. I immediately phoned the bank and had my card cancelled. The bank said that the transaction was declined. Today my new card number is on my account and…

Santander & Co-Op - when did you receive your switching bonus?
Family members have gone through the switching process for Santander and Co Op (with co-op it was the £100 (yes, £100, not the £200) offer through Britannia). They're asking me when this gets paid up. All appropriate standing orders & direct debits have been switched over. I'm not wanting anyone to say "1st December" as…

Co-op Cashminder Account
I opened one of these recently and its an account that is basic with a debit card, no overdraft, no cheque book, but phone banking, int banking, and direct debits no probs. It apparently is also a good account for people with financial problems, bad credit scores etc. What amazed me and I literally fall off my chair is how…

Mutilated cheque
Just a little something I though I'd vent at... Paid in a cheque from Music Magpie into my local HSBC in their fancy new deposit machine (the branch has just been refurbished). Everything was fine - pristine cheque, paying in slip and envelope. Came home this evening and the cheque has been rejected because it's torn in…

Barclays keep rejecting me..
Hi all, Barclays seem to have an issue with me and they won't tell me what it is. I applied for a premier banking account and they have turned me down, this is rather strange as I have never missed a payment on anything, ever, my net debt is less than 1/3 my salary and have no issues getting credit whenever I have needed…

Is 3rd party cheque clearance legal? (e.g. moneyshop)
OK, I've searched the internet, had a very rude conversation with the MoneyShop and a 20 minute call with my bank and NO ONE can tell me the answer to this question. Maybe some MSE forum users are savvy enough to know the answer? I wrote a cheque to my brother. Instead of paying it into his account, he took it to MoneyShop…

Nationwide refused to lower overdraft?
I have had a large overdraft with Nationwide for a few years - it used to be £2000 and then they lowered it to £1500 and I did a repayment plan each month until it was at that amount. In the last couple of months they have let me put it up to £1850 with no problem and kept offering me loans or credit cards when I rang up.…

Are banks clamping down on the £1k transfer?
Various banks require you to cycle £1k per month, or similar, to hit the targets many of us joined up for. Santander, Halifax etc. I've just tried to do February's cycle round the houses & i've had no end of bother, especially with Santander, but now Halifax are starting up. Telling me they can't transfer my £1k out as the…

Daily overdraft fee Santander decreased?
Hi everyone, I have a Premier current account with Santander (coming from former Alliance&Leicester). Usually, I have to pay £10 per month for using my overdraft in full. For some reason, for January 2012, the daily arranged overdraft fee shown is £1. Has the overdraft fee decreased? Or is this just a mistake? Thank you!

Santander preferred current account
morning, I've a couple of questions regarding this current account. My wife is thinking about switching, (with HBOS since childhood but poor customer service). She works part time, take home pay 800pounds per mth and always in credit. Good deals switching to this account but her pay is below the 1000pounds minimum. Does…

Merging family finances to one account
After many years of having 2 sole accounts and one joint we have decided to merge everything into one joint account. The current system isn't working for various reasons and my income will drop significantly in coming months so it seems to make sense. We do OK with budgeting and are not in debt. Having read the MSE advice…

Nationwide have changed cardreader authorisation usage
My main current account is a Nationwide Flexaccount. Because their savings interest rates are so low, when I get paid, I transfer the bulk of the money into a Tescos savings account and transfer it back as required over the month. For the last couple of years I've had to use the cardreader to complete the transfer but last…

Co-op Premier Bank Account
I took the premier (£13 monthly) account out in January 2011 where they refunded you the £13 for a year if you paid £800 a month into the account. The benefits included mobile phone insurance, travel insurance and breakdown cover. This has now come to an end and they are charging the £13. I have seen similar policy with…

Switching direct debits Santander - Halifax
Ok, so I've transferred from Santander to Halifax using the switching service. 8th Feb is my switching date, I have all the DDs set up on my new Halifax account, and they are all still on my Santander account. Halifax say Santander 'should' cancel them all on the 8th. I have a Santander credit card DD due to leave on about…
