Overdraft advice on Barclays Current Account Plus
Hello all. I had an account with Barclays for approximately 7 years and I have never went overdrawn until 12th February, in which I went overdrawn by £4.80 by mistake (which I feel a bit iffy now because like I said, I haven't been in this situation before). So far, I haven't received a letter or a notification from…

Additional Online Banking Security Measures
Just interested to know which methods are used by which banks - personal accounts only. Also, I would like to know how much hassle they cause or how easy to use they are. Santander (ex Abbey) uses "One Time Passcode", which sends texts to your mobile phone when setting up new payments (even to existing recipients), but…

Do we have enough cash left over?
Hi all. Me and my wife would like to move to find a bigger home, one to settle in to and start a family (within the next 2 years) Do you think having £550 left over each month is enough? That is with everything paid for in a normal month. Our mortgage would be around £1250 per month All our other expenses would be £1188.59…

Avoiding Tourist rates
Lets face it, tourist rates are a legitimate way for financial institutions to rip us off yet again. I don't know how widespread tourist rates are in the world, but when I've visited other countries in SE Asia, when you exchange money you get the official exchange rate at the time of the transaction. Do the same in this…

First Direct 1st Account
I've wanted to have a First Direct bank account for a while, they have excellent reviews plus the £100 for switching is tempting. The main problems is though I don't earn enough to pay in the £1,500 a month, however lately I have read that if you also open a savings account with them, then I wouldn't need to worry about…

Coop not helping
Hi, I need some advice please. I have banked with the The Cooperative for nearly 8 years, up until this month I had been debt free for nearly 10 months but this month I took out a £4k car loan with Black Horse finance. I applied this morning to upgrade my Coop Cash-minder account to a current account but it has been…

WHat is the best bank?
I am looking for a new bank to join. I am sick of Santander and them not giving me an overdraft when I need one but giving me an unauthorised overdraft and charging me £25+ extra when I don't need one. So I am looking for a bank that has fair overdraft charges/rules. Online banking and a Debit Card Anything extra would be…

Barclays Pinsentry - 7 digits?
Hi, Has anyone experienced Barclays Pinsentry only giving a 7-digit number instead of 8? It seems to be an increasing number with each use, and recently mine has gone from 9*** **** numbers to *** ****, having presumably started again from 0, and these numbers don't even work  The irony is I've opened an account…

Adios Santander
Both my wife an I were happy Alliance and Leicester customers with Premier Direct accounts and savings each plus a joint account. I defected to Co-op in November after a series of comedy (!) errors by Santander paying bills and she is in the process of doing the same. All thats left is the joint account which has a low 4…

Tax on Halifax Reward
My wife does not have sufficient income to pay tax on her savings with building societies so she registers with them to get interest paid without deduction of tax (R85). Late last year she opened a Reward account with Halifax where they pay £5 if £1000 goes in each month and we have put £1000 in each month and £5 has been…

Best way to get USD payments to a GBP account (via paypal!)??
I have recently started working for odesk.com. They make payments in USD to a paypal account. Paypal allow the account to be set in one primary currency, so I think I have a choice of: 1) Having the primary currency of paypal as GBP - paying a paypal currency converstion fee of 3.9% + $0.30 USD when they convert it from…

Re: Banks taking advantage of us all. We should all do something about it!
I think I may have a good suggestion that would be wonderful if someone could take forward. Its not bad enough the politicians are screwing us out of every penny to pay for their incompetent decision making. They further squander our hard earned monies to pay banks as a reward for their miss management and we are all duped…

Hey. To keep the story short, my mother has owned a bank account with barclays for at least 10 years now, not once has she ever gone overdrawn, and has kept a good history including paying back a £3,000 loan within a year with no hiccups. On the 9th of Febuary, she went overdrawn (geniune mistake) with an ATM withdrawl as…

Joint Account Recommendation
Hi there, My husband and I are looking to open a joint account. We both have seperate current accounts with Alliance & Leicester (Santander) at the moment.
