Overheard in the Halifax
I popped into the Halifax at lunch and overhead a member of staff talking to a customer who had been trying to pay some money (cash) into someone else's account. Apparently you are no longer allowed to pay cash into an account unless you are in possession of the card, not just the bank details. Presumably, you would also…

Does anyone have any up-to-date inormation on the situation regarding dormant accounts and the putting of money therefrom into charities? Bank Charges Again
Hi, Thanks to everyone who has sent me PM's asking for info on how to get their charges back. I have been inundated with requests (to the point that my messages regularly exceed the allowed limit and some drop off quite quickly), and so I apologise to those that I have not been able to reply to personally. Just to…

changing accounts & credit rating
Does anyone know if changing my current account will have a negative effect on my credit rating? My rating is already lowish, mostlt due to having moved house recently and I don't want to make it any worse. I also have an overdraft and I'm thinking about taking up the A&L account currently on offer.

Banking a dollar cheque - any tips please
Hi there, I have been lucky and have inherited $20,000. If I pay it straight into the bank then it will be 14 days before we know what rate we will end up with and by that time will have lost all power. Any advice to an alternative? Sorry if this is the wrong board, feel free to move. :money:

The hidden cost of banking with smile
I'm with smile and I should warn you the worst things about them is their bank statements or lack of.. The online ones have a poor layout and they charge you £2.50 per statement if you want them through the post. Home printed bank statements aren't acceptable in most situations where you are trying to prove your income ,…

My God, Halifax have some rubbish products!
After hearing about the Liquid Gold savings account (0.95% AER) I thought I'd have a look at their other products. Look at this .... Whoopee bloody doos, A&L and Lloyds can managed 5% and 4% respectively for the same thing, and A&L only require £500 per month. So this is why they need that stupid advertising campaign on…

Using normal current accounts instead of business accounts?
My wife and I run a small business and we are reaching the end of our 'free business banking' with LloydsTSB. I have heard before that you can legally use a normal current account to hold your business money, therefore not having to pay 0.50p per cheque written etc. I was therefore wondering if anyone has done this, and…

just a nice simple one... my wife was going to go over her overdraft limit yesterday so I paid £50 cash into her account at the Post Office yesterday afternoon. Last time I did this her account got credited with the cash the same day, this time it's now, in their words, "missing"... So they've bounced a cheque for £18,…
