A & L charges problem

just a nice simple one...
my wife was going to go over her overdraft limit yesterday so I paid £50 cash into her account at the Post Office yesterday afternoon. Last time I did this her account got credited with the cash the same day, this time it's now, in their words, "missing"...
So they've bounced a cheque for £18, charged her £34 for bouncing it & then paid a £30 cheque & charged her £25 for paying it. Consistency is a good thing, right? Wish i understood why they bounced the small cheque & paid the large one...
Assuming we ever trace the missing £50 (I'm about to go & talk to the postmaster about it :-)) I'd expect to get the charges refunded but it is damn annoying to carefully pay in the cash to cover the cheques & still get hit with £55 of charges for £48 of cheque.

Probably the larger one was 'guranteed' unlike the small one?hedge15 wrote:Wish i understood why they bounced the small cheque & paid the large one...
Don't use cheques unless this is absolutely unavoidable if all this is so annoying for you ..... it is damn annoying to carefully pay in the cash to cover the cheques & still get hit with £55 of charges for £48 of cheque.0 -
Neither cheque gauranteed, hence my bafflement at why one paid & one bounced.0
