How long can you use a stolen debit card for?
I had my wallet stolen on Thursday, with all my cards in it. All cards were cancelled by Thursday 6pm. On Friday, my smile debit card was then used and authorised for £750 worth of transactions. Obviously, I execpt that I will not have to pay for this, but why was it not stopped on Thursday? They cannot yet confirm whether…

Exceeded overdraft limit
I have managed to go over my overdraft limit by £15 with HSBC, and don't get paid for another two days. I rang HSBC to ask if they'd consider waiving the bank charge for this as it'll be cleared on Thursday, but they said no. So I was wondering if the fact that I've exceeded my limit (and therefore have to pay bank…

How many bank accounts can you open?
Just following on from someone's advice to have separate accounts for bills etc etc, how many CAN you have open? We were turned down for a new account a while ago but think that may be because we applied for the wrong account (another one with overdraft etc, which we don't need). But it must be possible to get a few on the…

Investment to replace insurance?
I don't believe in breakdown insurances and insurance against emergency plumbming disasters etc. but I would like to invest a small amount per month to cover myself for such emergencies. Would an ordinary savings account do, or is there something better such as a long-term policy? Bearing in mind that this would be a…

My first visit to the site. This is my situation. I have shares in dollars in an American company and the shares are presently managed by the Bank of New York. Hello all, I'm new to this forum, however........... My wife paid £450 in cash, and a cheque for £4600 into her First Direct account via HSBC. Fed Up with my Current Account
Was with Bank of Scotland, and the merger with Halifax has messed up all kinds of things for me. I've had it, I'm changing. In order of priority, I want: 1. Good customer service. 2. A good interest rate (I pay in a lot every couple of months, then no more until it is gone, but the average balance is pretty high). 3.…

Loans and shared current accounts
Hi, My boyfriend and I are moving into a house very soon (renting from family). I've always been really good with money and my only debt is a student loan of which I'm paying back way more each month than I need to. So all this is very new to me. I knew my bf had loans, but the extent of it only came to light in January.…

Basic Bank accounts
I have a Halifax basic bank account - they dropped the 'Solo' card in favour of the dreaded 'Electron' card, which is next to useless! There has been a great deal of controversy recently in respect of 'decent' basic bank accounts. I am keen to find a better alternative - I need cheque facilities, cashcard and a better…

Smile Wine offer
I opened an account with Smile in November, and took advantage of their free wine offer. Three months later, and I'm still waiting for the wine. About six weeks ago they told me it would be with me 'soon'. But still nothing! Anybody else had problems with this sort of false incentive, from Smile or anyone else?

Applying For Current Accounts When In Debt
Is it possible to apply for a basic current account with no overdraft, even though you have a poor credit rating and outstanding debt? Would Nationwide turn a person down for example?
