Stopping Cheques...

I'm bank with Lloyds and 2 of my cheques have gone missing in the post. (the 2 cheques were sent using the same envelope).
1. Will I be charged for cancelling them?
2. What happens if someone tried to cash them?
Thanks.

1) You probably won't be charged if they have genuinely gone missing.
2) Cheques can only be paid into an account in the name you wrote them out to. If someone managed to cash them / pay them into an account with a different name you should be able to get the money back as the bank they were paid into didn't check them properly. You should get them stopped asap tho, as the bank may find you liable for the loss if you didn't stop them as soon as you realised they'd gone missing. Lloyds have been advertising their 24/7 banking like mad recently, so you should be able to phone them now and get them stopped.0 -
Usually if you tell your bank that the cheques have gone missing in the post then they will cancel them for free (some banks charge if you want to cancel them due to not wanting to pay someone or you have just "lost it").
If someone else tries to cash them, even the person they were wrote out to, if its after they have been stopped then that person wont get the funds & will probably be charged for trying to cash a stopped cheque as well!0
