Basic Bank accounts

I have a Halifax basic bank account - they dropped the 'Solo' card in favour of the dreaded 'Electron' card, which is next to useless! There has been a great deal of controversy recently in respect of 'decent' basic bank accounts. I am keen to find a better alternative - I need cheque facilities, cashcard and a better debit card than Electron - anyone any ideas please?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Try HSBC (if you don't mind paltry rates of interest). You can also operate their basic bank account via internet (which many banks don't offer).

To offer some suggestions, we'll need a little more info about your situation. Is there any reason why you have only a basic bank account? Do you have debts? Bad debts or defaults? Do you work? Have a credit card?
The reason I ask, is that some situations (eg. defaulted debts) can seriously limit your options. If you let us know your situation, we can be more specific about your options.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
Do Natwest still not provide a Solo Card?0
-
Click Here to find out all about Solo, it would appear as if it is only available from Natwest & HSBC from a quick look at the website.0

The Natwest Step account comes with a Solo card. I think you're pushing it to find an account with a cheque book as well.0

Take a look at this website:
http://www.support4learning.org.uk/money/banks_basic.htm
This lists details for all/most basic bank accounts, i.e. do they have cheque book, debit card, etc.

I suggest you go to your local Post Office. They have leaflets on banks which offer BASIC BANK ACCOUNTS. One of the leaflets compares the services available of the various BASIC BANK ACCOUNTS - especially how you can access your account at the Post Office.0
