Extemely Cheap gifts with poems 18th Sep 07 at 12:23 AM
I have posted these elsewhere but thought it would be a good idea if we began a thread (hope thats ok) with any extremely cheap gifts/traditions with poems.
Please add any ideas you have so they are all together here

    ---------------------------------
    POT OF GOLD
Pop an instant scratch card, lottery ticket, chocolate covered coins (some people put ferrara rocha in too), and put into a gold box, gold basket, glass jar with gold lid, or I put them into wine glasses (and use on the table) decorated with gold paint, gold ribbon around the stem and a label with the poem on.

This pot of gold is just for you
to make your dreams come true

or there is this poem too

To finish off all the presents

Here is a little pot of gold
    A festive nibble

    And some good cheer

To see you through the cold

    I hope it will make

All of your dreams come true
    Have a very merry Christmas
From all of us to you
    (or from me to you)

    ----------------------------------
    A BOX OF HUGS
Tie an empty box with ribbon and add this poem to a tag.

This is a very special gift that you can never see,
The reason its so special is because its just for you from me
Whenever you feel lonely or are ever feeling blue
You only have to hold this gift and know I'm hugging you
You never can unwrap it, please leave the ribbon tied
Just hold the box close to your heart its full of hugs inside.

(you can change the wording from hugs to love too)
    ---------------------------------------
    GUARDIAN ANGEL SURVIVAL KIT
Purchase a box and place the items with labels inside

Toothpick - pick out the good qualities in everyone including yourself
Plaster - to heal hurt feelings
Gum - think before you chew others out
Smiley face sticker - because smiling is contageous
Guardian angel - because everyone needs one
Pencil - to write down your blessings everyday
Rubber/eraser - to remind you to start every day with a clean slate
Sticky tape - to tape your mouth if you have nothing good to say
Star -to reflect what you can be
sandpaper - to smooth down the rough edges
Glitter - to make life sparkle
Velcro - to help you get a grip with things
Rubber band - to stretch you to your limit in everything you do
Paper clip - to always keep things together
Candle - to light your path

    -------------------------------
    REINDEER POO
Chocolate raisins in a bag with this label attached

We were awakened when we heard santa call
Dash away, dash away, dash away all
But soon we discovered out on the front lawn
Santa and his reindeer were gone
With our little shovels we started to scoop
all of the droppings YUCK reindeers poop!!!!
and then we generously filled you up a sack
Merry Christmas and enjoy your snack

    or

    Santa saved a precious gift
    and its especially for you
    Just a little something extra
and it comes from rudolf too

    ------------------------------
    SANTAS KEY

Find an old rusty key and add string or ribbon with this poem on a tag

Santa this old key is a magical kind
and we're leaving it out for you to find
Cause for you tonight it will open any door
So you wont have to slide down chimneys anymore

    or

This key is very special you see
It wont work for you or me
    Hang it outside your door
Go to bed and worry no more
Close your eyes and close them tight
Cause santa claus is coming tonight

we used to hang ours on our front door
    ---------------------------------

    REINDEER FOOD
Porridge oats, a little glitter in a bag with this poem attached

When santas sleigh is full of toys
    Ready for christmas day
    Use this special magic dust
to help him find his way
Just sprinkle it outside your door
The glitter will be there light
The smell of oats will draw the reindeer
and bring santa on christmas night

    ------------------------------------

    ANGEL DUST

Pop some glitter into a bag and attach this poem, perhaps with a pic of an angel

    Within this little bag
    Placed with loving care
    Is special angel dust
    My guardian angel placed there
It is to share with special friends
When they're down or feeling blue
To lift a heart and share a smile
    as special friends should do

    -------------------------------------
    HOT CHOC MUG
Mug, hot choc, flake, marshmallows, spoon dipped in chocolate
wrap in cellophane and add this poem

Was told you've been really good this year
    always glad to hear it
    With freezing weather drawing near
You'll need to warm the spirit
So heres a little snowman soup
    Complete with stirring stick
add hot water, sip it slow
Its sure to do the trick!

Thanks Sally Savings, you inspired me to browse the net for similar ideas. The family love amusing presents so here are 3 I will definatley be using.

    (borrowed and modified from Budget101.com)

    Snowman Poop
    Santa looked at his list,
    Even checked it twice.
And he has seen that you
    have not been very nice.
    Since coal's so expensive,
    Here's the scoop,
    Santa's filling your stocking
    with SNOWMAN'S POOP!

(Fill a bag with mini marshmallows, top with poem).

Washer & Dryer Gag Gift Idea

This Christmas our ship has finally come in
Weíre feeling so wealthy and rich.
    Instead of some small remembrance
This year will be quite a switch.

Weíre giving a gift of high quality
No more cheap presents for us.
Itís time we really went all out
But donít worry, itís really no fuss.

We considered giving you a sports car
Or maybe a tropical cruise ---
But we decided to be more practical
And give something you really could use.

So, open the box and you may be surprised,
To find not only one gift, but TWO ---
We hope you will put your presents to work
Itís a WASHER & DRYER, too!

Gift: Place this poem on a neatly wrapped dishtowel & dishrag set.

    Dustpan Cookies

    I was in a hurry,
    'Cuz time was running out.
I'd baked a batch of cookies for you,
    And when I turned about,
I saw they'd fallen on the floor.
It made me want to shout!
How could this happen at this time,
    When time was running out.
I couldn't throw them in the trash.
    Whatever could I do!
I quickly swept them in this pan,
And rushed them off to you.
    Or---
    I was baking some cookies
When they dropped on the floor.
So I scooped them right up
And rushed them to your door!
Merry Christmas From Our House To Yours!

(Place some freshly baked cookies on a New Dustpan, cover with Cellophane & a bow)

    All natural bubble bath

(poem made up by me to suit the person its going to, but you can change it!)

I know you like to take a bath to chill out unwind and relax,
So I thought Iíd go to Boots to get a bubble bath pack,
But alas, too late, it was Christmas Eve, not a sales assistant working, not even Steve,
By then Iíd decided you deserved a treat for your self,
Because a long bubble bath is good for you health,
But a bath with no bubbles is no good for you
So I popped to Tescos to see what I could do
And sitting on a shelf in all its glory,
Was the solution to my problem and now Iíll end my story
A relaxing bubble bath is such a breeze,
If you Just follow these simple instructions please,
open the can, and pour on to your plate
eat the contents, run a bath and sit and wait
about half an hour , then your stomach shall feel the wrath,
and you shall have yourself an ALL NATURAL BUBBLE BATH !!!

    friendship box

A box is beautifully and individually wrapped, tied with ribbons and has a crystal heart attached to it. It comes with the following verse (which is printed and laminated) attached to the outside:-

This is a Box of Friendship
Itís sent with love to show
Our friendship means the world to me
    More than youíll ever know.
So even if weíre far apart
Or havenít spoken for a while
This will remind you I think of you often
    And always with a smile.
There is no need to unwrap it
    But if youíre feeling blue
Just hold this box close to your heart
Because itís filled with love for you.

So in theory the recipient is not supposed to open the gift as it is filled with love. However, it is human nature to want to know what is inside, so, if they do open the box, this is what they will find...

There are some little gemstones, Aventurine, Rose Quartz, Blue Lace Agate, a little confetti angel and tiny dove and some confetti hearts and stars. The following verse (printed and laminated) is also included:-

So curiosity got the better of you!
    You had to peek inside
    Wondering what surprises
    This little box may hide.
There is Aventurine to bring you luck
Rose Quartz to bring you love
Blue Lace Agate to bring you happiness
And to bring you peace, a tiny dove.
These little gifts I give to you
Because I really wanted to say
Iím so very grateful for our friendship
And I treasure it every day.

    The Perfect Man

The pertfect man is hard to find
    I know because I've looked
So I give to you the very nearest thing
and he's tastier than he looks

He won't moan at you when you go bootsing
He wont be interested you see
For he really is the perfect man
I think you will so definately agree

For he's quiet and he's sweet
and no trouble will he be.
But just in case he his
You can dunk him in your tea.

    Enjoy your perfect man!

These are all fantastic, as a family we decided to not do xmas presents this year but so spread the cost across our birthdays instead. So these would be great for a little token gift instead.
Does anyone know how I can save them so that I can find them when I need them?
    Regards Viv

    Not quite a perfect man...

They say good men are hard to find
I know this to be true
But I hunted far and wide
And found one just for you!

He is no good at DIY
    He cannot fix the car
But his socks are never smelly
And he doesn't stray too far

    He always listens patiently
And won't pester you in bed
If you get fed up with him
You just bite of his head!

Just remembered a poem that was great for grandparents/god parents etc for your little ones to make.

You use black card and white paint and paint as the poem describes
and have lots of fun too

This little angel is special you see
Because she's a small part of ME
    Her wings are my hands.
    her body my feet.
A splodge for her head which really looks neat.
Her halo shimmering with glitter and gold.
I hope you'll agree she'll never be sold.

Never a Christmas Morning ~ snow globe/xmas scene ~ xmas card
Never the Old Year Ends ~ new year banner/new year card/party poppres/wine
But Somebody thinks of Someone ~ heart pillow/plaque
Old Days ~ old sweets/bars of choc (cadburys do some great ones online)
    Old Times ~ clock/watch
Old Friends ' ~ pics of you and the recipiant in a frame/scrapbook/album

then on each item stick a little tag with the verse of the poem. Line the box with paper/stripped tissue paper ~ seal the box with ribbon or simaler, add the verse and await xmas day

I would prob say min you could spend £20~£25 max £70
