Does everyone have this amount of clothes?

Bit of a strange question but I've recently moved to a much smaller house, and I've realised that I have a lot of stuff! For my clothes alone, I now have an average sized double wardrobe, a large chest of 8 drawers, another chest of 5 drawers, and a big trunk/ottoman type thing. All are packed full and to be honest, I could really do with another wardrobe. This doesn't include outdoor coats which are now taking up 8 coat hooks in the hall.
Is this unusual, or do most people have this amount? I don't know how to fit everything in.

I don't think it is unusual to have that much. I read somewhere that most people only wear 20% of their wardrobes. I wear about 80% of mine, by I have had a major cull and replaced most of my wardrobe with items I do wear.
If you have the space, keep everything, although I still think is worth having a blitz. When I culled my wardrobe I haven't regretted 99% of it.0 -
Personally that does sound like a lot to me!
I have half a double wardrobe and 3 drawers.
Do you actually wear everything?0 -
I don't have as many as the OP but I have far more than I need.
I got rid of a lot when I downsized, but I still have too many.
I have thrown the oldest ones out, given some to charity shops etc and have not missed anything.0 -
Not even close! A 3 door wardrobe in our bedroom. A double wardrobe in one spare bedroom. An eight door wardrobe in another spare bedroom. Two storage wardrobes in the loft ...... plus drawers.0

I wear less than half of it on a regular basis, but I have a feeling that if I clear out, I'll be needing something I've just got rid of shortly after. A lot of it is clothes for occasions that very rarely occur, but would be expensive to replace if I did need something, and my thrifty nature means I'm also reluctant to get rid of anything that is in good condition, regardless of how often I wear it.
I also have clothes that are great for holidays in hot countries, which might happen about once every 5 years or so, and clothes for Christmas, clothes for a (very rare) family gathering etc. I also have this feeling that if I need to have variety and not wear the same things repeatedly so I have clothes that I'll wear maybe a few times a year just to look different.
Problem is, with the new much smaller house, trying to fit all my clothes in is difficult and I'm worried it'll end up looking like a big wardrobe!0 -
I forgot to add that I didn't include all the packed away stuff. The above is just summer clothes. I have a lot of vacuum packed winter clothes as well.0

If you have the room then what is the problem? Have a look once or twice a year and ditch stuff you don't see yourself wearing again.0 -
I have half a wardrobe and 3 shelves. It's a squeeze but it's much easier to see what you have and get rid of what you don't wear.
I wouldn't get more storage if I were you. I find the bigger handbag I have the more crap I carry round so now I use smaller bags. I think more storage means more stuff you don't need.0 -
Until recently I had two double wardrobes and 6 stuffed drawers.
I've had a big clear out and now have 1 wardrobe and 5 half full drawers, and I've not missed a single item I got rid of. Its really easy to hoard clothes and convince yourself they'll all be worn, but in reality I bet most of us wear the same few favourites over and over!0
