£20 per day and rising from Youtube

I thought I'd share this with you as it's getting quite exiting!
About 2 years ago I started a youtube account. One of my videos started to do quite well and youtube asked my to become a partner and monetise my videos with adsense.
I did this and started to receive a very low income from this. However over the last year I've been posting new videos and have purchased software to do my own animation. I now have over 80 videos and have a daily income of more than £20, and it's rising by about 10% each month.
If you think you can make compelling videos and have time to invest in exploring the system then it's worth having a go.
1. Think of a topic you are passionate about, and something you can make videos on - for example 'how to make cards'
2. Go to google keyword tool and do a word search on 'make cards' or what ever your passion is. This will bring up lots of phrases that contain make cards. Spend alot of time thining about your topic, it needs to be profitable and you don't want to get fed up of it in 6 months.
3. Sort this by Global monthly searches and choose phrases with a medium or low competion. These are phases that are easier to rank high on google with that the 'high competition' ones
4. Open your youtube channel and name it something relevent like 'how to make cards for free' or perhaps something more original!
5. Start to make really good quality videos using the best keyword phrases fron your google keyword search. For example 'how to make pop up cards' 'how to make valentines cards'. Make sure you are not infringing any copyright and you have permission to use the content of videos if you don't own it. For each video make sure you name it with the keyword, use it in the title, and also in the description and the tags box. Write a good amount in the description box.
6. Support your youtube channel with facebook and twitter. Lots of social media and building relationships with people (actually I haven't done this bit yet!!)
7. Like other peoples channels and videos. You need to get lots of subscribers to your chanel. you get this by providing quality content that people want to see
8. Apply to become a youtube partner and to monetise your videos (all info is on youtube under creator and partners) - you will need an adsense account
9. Keep creating great videos and increasing your audience
This is not a get rich quick scheme by any means. But has proved a fun way to earn a part time income for me, and the best bit of it is that while I go to work in a 'proper job' the pennies roll in by the minute 24/7.
Adsense, for those who don't know, is the google program responsible for the annoying adverts on youtube videos! When ever any-one clicks on the advert (and no you can't click on your own) you are paid a small amount per click depending on how much the advertiser is paying for the advert to be there. Some catergories and keywords pay more than others.
You need to be carefull choosing your subject, it needs to be something that you can make lots of videos about and that people will want to watch. It's also helpful to write about a topic or words that advertisers will want to associate with.
Anyway I though I'd put my tuppence in. It's all part of my grand master plan for a very comfortable retirement!

Some people make a lot more than that tbh, not sure how true it is? but i heard reports of payouts being around $2 per thousands views? so if you are doing guides and playthroughs of a popular game and get the videos out there you could see a nice return from these. If you go to some of the popular gamers channels it's not uncommon for them to have subscribers that number in the tens of thousands, and to have 15 million+ video views. They also often do live streaming with companies like twitchtv or own3d who also pay you x amount per thousand ad impressions, so if you take it as being $2 per thousand ad impressions and say play 4 ads and hour this can soon rank up. Several people on there have viewer counts above 5k a times which would work out at $20 per hour which isn't a bad payout really?0

Yes, some of the gaming channels my son watches have millions of views daily. I understand that some make £200000 plus per year, particularly channels like 'The Annoying Orange' (not a gaming channel obviously!) A friend of mine makes a full time living out of this.
I get about 15000-20000 daily views at the moment so this is about right with $2 per 1000 views. I have a plan to incease this by 10% each month, and use it all to pay off my debts, and then start on the mortgage. My kids are totally embarrassed at Mums hobby!! :jPay off Car Loan £17,047 £10580 by Christmas 2022

One thing that may be worth looking for, is to find out if there is a "network" you can join? a lot of the gaming channels have joined one usually on a 60/40 or 70/30 profit basis in your favour. (you obviously need to read the small print and details) but these can drive a lot more traffic to your channel.0

Cool thanks, I don't know what a network is but I'm off to find out! In fact I did get approached by a company called 'Full Screen' earlier in the year, but when I just read that they wanted 30% of my profits I took it no further. I guess they must be a network?Pay off Car Loan £17,047 £10580 by Christmas 2022

Not sure? but could be? Be careful who you sign up with though some networks are better than others. And some are not much more than outright scammers. So research them well before signing up with anyone.0

That's awesome. I didn't realise you could make money on youtube - I just thought it was for wasting time when you were supposed to be working
Can we see one of your videos?0 -
That's a decent amount and something to build on for 2013.
I totally agree with you regarding videos of interest and producing compelling stuff that people will be genuinely interested in, as they more likely to click on the adverts. The keywords you use are also important and will determine your video positioning with You Tube. Another useful addition is in having a link to your blog/site directly below your video and an excellent way to gain extra traffic.
You Tube has and probably always will be an effective marketing tool for gaining additional income.
