UKPC charge not paid now debt recovery letter comes - what do I do?

I got a UKPC parking charge notice while visiting a sheltered housing complex in March. There were no parking permits in the stated place so I hadn't used one and come back to find I have a ticket. I spoke to the manager who cancelled the ticket. I got a reminder through the post about my unpaid parking charge. I called the manager to check it had been cancelled. She said it had and to ignore the notices. I got a final reminder through the post and now I have a letter from a debt recovery company demanding I pay within seven days.
The parking charge notice was for parking on the private lane of the sheltered housing complex I had been visiting.
What should I do? Do I ignore it? Just don't want any consequences because I haven't responded to this properly.

Yes, ignore it. Like everything in life it has consequences, but the good news for you is that they are positive consequences because you won't waste money on these scammers.
They can't do anything to you whatsoever, so just chill like the rest of us.0 -
So far you have done everything right, just continue following the advise given by the peeps on here.
ps. Oh and don't worry about the threatening letters, I'll swap you them for mine if you like. See who gets a full set first.Hi Ho Silver Awayyyyyyyyyy0 -
'Debt Collectors' have no authority to do anything until they have taken you to court, won, and then obtained a court order. Chances of that happening - almost nil. I assure you had there been a court case your would have known about it. It is also illegal to harass someone for an alleged unproven debt.**** I hereby relieve MSE of all legal responsibility for my post and assume personal responsible for all posts. If any Parking Pirates have a problem with my post then contact me for my solicitors address.*****0

ignore like i did, all the letters you will receive roughly 7 in total from debt recovery plus and zenith collections ( who are drp in a different guise) will all mention the following,
we may, we might , if and intention to but nothing stating WE ARE . dont panic when you receive these letters and just file them away safely. hold your nerve and all this will pass.0 -
Check the forum sticky - you will see the entire UKPC/Roxburghe scam letter chain illustrated there. Just count them down to the end of the scam.0

The consequences of ignoring a private parking ticket can be very serious. For example, having some money left in your bank account for you to waste on luxuries like food, light, heat. etc.
Only councils, the police, train operators and Transport for London can impose legally enforceable fines or penalties. A private parking company (PPC) or an individual can't. Even PPCs call their tickets “Parking Charge Notices”, not “Penalty Charge Notices”. In law, they’re called “speculative invoices”.
Any warning signs are usually so badly positioned and worded, that they won’t have created a fair and legally binding deemed contract between the car park owner and a driver entering the car park in the first place. See The Unfair Contract Terms Act 1997 and Excel Parking Services vs. Cutts, Stockport, 2011, 1SE02759, the Peel Centre case.
All the car park owner (CPO) can claim from a driver in damages for any breach of contract is what they’ve lost as a result. If this is a free car park or they paid, this is £0.00. Asking for more has been judged to be unreasonable and therefore an unfair contract penalty under the terms of The Unfair Contract Terms Act 1997, which is not legally enforceable. See Dunlop Pneumatic Tyre Co. Ltd. vs. New Garage & Motor Co. Ltd., House of Lords, 1914 and countless cases since.
You need to contact the CPO and find out whether they didn't call off their PPC as promised, or whether the PPC has ignored their orders. In any event, advise the CPO that they are "jointly and severally liable" for the actions of their agents, the PPC, and that these have been judged to constitute harassment under the terms of The Protection from Harassment Act 1997.The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
Yes, Bluebell, just to add my twopennyworth, keep on ignoring, absolutely nothing will happen except that they will get fed up with being ignored and quietly disappear. UKPC are too smart to actually take it to court where they would certainly lose; they make a few threats but that's as far as it goes.0

Does the same "Non Laws" apply in Derry, Northern Ireland?
I see the UKPC Police, LOL, walking around this retail park like they owned the place.
If they tried to give me one of these parking notices, could I hand them a prepared invoice for time taken to read their parking charge notice, at the same rate as their exhorbatent parking "fine"?
How do I also find out who owns this car park, so I can complain to them that UKPC is and will put a lot of people off coming to the retail park if they think they will get "fined" for parking out of line?
Could I even do them for harrassment?
Thanks.0 -
