The giving up/cutting down alcohol support thread! Part 4 17th Jul 09 at 2:01 PM
Again, the previous thread was getting very very big, so we have a new thread again.

That great first post by In Search Of Me is below.

The previous thread (part 3) is HERE.

Part 2 is HERE and the original starting thread is HERE.

There are a few of us who want to give up/cut down & I thought it would be good to widen the net to support each other along the way!
For me alch & feeling good for the time I'm drinking & then rubbish after go hand in hand. A bit like drinking & smoking & drinking & getting the munchies! Last year I gave up alch & fags for 10 months & then "slipped" towards Christmas until by Jan I was doing both with alarming regularity. I dread to think how much both cost me financially and I know physically that I've felt rubbish. My lungs hurt, have put on weight & literally none of my clothes fit so I will have to buy more - which means a dent in my budget that I can ill afford. My skin is also yukky & much nicer when I dont drink/smoke!
I had my last ciggies the night before last & last wine on Tues. I know I will feel 100% better when I crack it but also know it will be hard. One disadvantage here is that all too often DFW "parties" tend to involve alcohol so I'm also hoping that this can possibly be a safe haven for those of us who want, or need, to abstain, for now at least!
Anway - I hope that this can be a place of real support for people who are sturggling. I do wonder whether there is a link between debt & drinking as from the Jan thread it was obvious that so many struggle to give up! Plus I know for me that I feel much hapier and in control when I dont drink (or drink in moderation) - which of course begs the question "why do I do it?"! Anyway, I do but will now try not t ad hope some of you wil join in. Some days I know I wil fail, just as I do with my debt free journey and I am more than happy to be given a swift (but nice!) kicking when I do! Hugs all and dare I say... but this time with water!!

PS have amended this slightly as I have decided that I will try for the moderation way! That means for me not drinking over the recc limits (bottle & a half of wine for me!) but I know at times this will be a struggle plus I'm aware that others want to do the same.

Hello all - I am back to doing a payment a day from my 'wine money' to my loan which I am insisting will be finally paid before the Standing Order comes out on the 15th August - cos I just cancelled it. (WHOOPS)

Therefore I have an added incentive for staying AF as I need AT LEAST 24 real no holds barred AFD's from now until then - which works in with my target of no drinking.

Well that confused me (doesn't take much!!)

Well done Fay on clearing so much of the Hairy Scary Loan. I was looking at my outstanding balances and think I will do like you. Start paying off the smallest ones using my former wine money.

    Hope everyone is ok?

What a lot of posts to catch up on, and a new thread too.

Am still on 9, and have definitely consumed too much over the last 6 days. So back to being AF today. Really struggled earlier today, but filled up on chocklit and coffee, then moved on to the lime/fizzy water and that seemed to do the trick.

It feels good to be back on the thread.

Hope everyone has a lovely friday evening.

    Goooood Eveningggggggg Everyone

(The spelling is intentional, so don't worry)

But I have to admit I have been totally off track for the last three nights in a row I have had a bottle of red wine each night and another confession I ate 6 bags of weight watchers crisps yesterday . I have just not been myself at all.

Anyways I have given myself a good talking to and I am af tonight and I have been to the gym, I need to get back on the healthy eating and fitness track.

It doesn't make any sense, as I did 6 months without a drink, as our lovely Gc says it is so easy to fall back into bad habits. But for what its worth I am feeling in control again and I aim to be a good Budgie from now on and behave myself

So there we have it my sorry tale of woe.

    (That's for me)

I've been to a retirement party tonight with old colleagues. Before joining this thread I would have been absolutely legless with these particular friends, slept wherever and rolled home about lunchtime tomorrow. Tonight I drove there (30 miles away and no partners) promising myself a single glass of wine and then I had a bottle (bought specially this afternoon) to lay into when I got home. Instead I drank water all night, had a surprisingly good time and told myself it would be a waste of an AF night to drink when I got in after midnight.

So here I am with my hot Ribena. It's the first time I've done 5 nights in a row for years and years (could be 20?). I'm really proud of myself if a bit stunned.

Lovely new thread, shows how chatty and popular we all are. Have a good weekend everyone.

    9AF please Jo.

Oh Darling Budgie. The thought of you being naughty just really made me giggle. You are ALWAYS so good . When I read this I thought - go girl you deserve it .

BTW - the hygenist wasn't too bad . The thought of it is always worse than the reality. Can't say the same for the other one though ... last time after 2 visits to the doctor and 2 failed attempts:confused::confused: I had do go to the hospital to have it done . (Sorry guys!). Too much information

    Have a lovely weekend .
