    * I wish it could be Christmas every day * - It's the 2017 Christmas Chatter Thread 24th Dec 16 at 6:24 PM
‘Well I wish it could be Christmas every day
When the kids start singing and the band begins to play
Oh I wish it could be Christmas everyday
So let the bells ring out for Christmas’

Hello and welcome to the 6th Christmas Chatter Thread.

This thread is not just about Christmas, but our whole year. We have had many ups and downs, deaths and births but we have all made it through to the end of the last thread and Christmas 2016.

NOTE - For all new people please don't lurk, but come and join in with all the chatter. We are all a little mad (about Christmas!), but not dangerous.

The following posts will be made up of all the links saved from last year with new ones added as we go.

This will hopefully make it easier in October/November when we are all looking for them.

Please let me know if any become out of date or if you would like your birthday added to the list

Thanks to all posters on the previous threads – the thread is only a success because of your contributions!

So on that note it is over to you and roll on Christmas 2017!

046 hope you get relief from the pain without need for surgery, l can understand why you are reluctant.
Vulpix, your surgery sounds amazing, and you are fit enough to carry on hard landscaping your garden, what a feat!
Free, the way l got rid of bindweed was to fill bottles with weedkiller and push the ends of the weed into it, they constantly absorb the weedkiller, down to the roots. Also works for brambles, but not mares tail, cant get rid of that at all.
My neighbours for the past 30 years have sold their house...... oh, no! they are moving to be nearer their children, so l don't blame them. The buyers have 3 smallies, so that will be nice, l love to hear/see kids playing, but l hope they have been warned about our problem neighbour. (the one convicted of child pornography).
My grandnibs are enjoying being able to play out, as it is such a novelty for them. l so hope the weather is kind to us.
DS1 is still vegan, so mealtimes are a bit of a challenge, tonight is leek and almond flan, hmmmm not sure, but nowt to lose, as they say, 'faint heart never kissed a pig'

    Good Morning all!

Well had a bad night and am in pain but have got love actually on to cheer me up. Have watched so many christmas stocking stuffers vlogs that I have a huge list of ideas!

Vulpix- They have said if I have another operation that it will have to be a fusion. In the grand scheme of things its not as bad as what others are going through. It just seems every time I get our lives back to some kind of normality my back decides to be horrendous!
You are definitely a great example for having it done though lol Yes we can start the crafts again, when would be best for everybody? Summer hols are coming up so do we want to start in July or after summer hols in Sept?
Mrs I- Thanks for the message, I am worried about work too, I have found a job I absolutely love. They are being great with me but I really do not want to wear out their understanding. They do Know all about my condition. Glad you grandnibs are enjoying the weather. Never heard of that saying before, it made me laugh xx

I am feeling so very behind on here and with Christmas prep, although I did buy some chocolate oranges for £1 each in sainsbugs the other day - this is the extent of my gift stash so far
Still awaiting baby's imminent arrival and trying my best to enjoy this bit of time on maternity before mayhem breaks loose. Which does mean, I finally have found a bit of time to get on here and say hello. I've had a little bit of a read but haven't read far back.

0462 I hope you are able to find some pain relief before the final need for surgery comes.
free Hope you manage to clear the bindweed. Not something I have had to deal with before but I hear it is not fun, sorry!
peppa Glad you have a fab time at ascot ladies day, always nice to posh it up now and again
mrsI Enjoy the leek and almond flan, hope it goes down well with DS.

I hope everyone is keeping well

NEWTHRIFT lovely to see you, your Christmas prep is further on than mine lol. It's a good idea to make the most of your 'free' time, it's in short supply from here on in but totally worth it of course. Apologies if I've forgotten but do we know if we're team pink or team blue or are you waiting to see?

0462 it sounds like you've been really unlucky to have got back on your feet and then have someone drive into you and start it all up again. Ooh the ceiling mess sounds very unpleasant, I've always dreaded a ceiling coming down (until now we've always lived in old houses) with all the years of accumulated dust and dirt. I hope you get sorted soon and I'm sure once your lovely loft conversion is finished you'll forget all about this.

MRSINVISIBLE it must feel very strange losing neighbours after such a long time but hopefully the new people will be lovely and their little ones will keep you entertained. We've got bindweed too so I'm going to try the weed killer in a bottle tip, fortunately no brambles and I'll have to google mares tail. That saying made me laugh too, I've heard the first part but never teamed with that ending before

VULPIX I like the idea of the bags in lieu of stockings - pretty and practical. I'll add that to my ideas stash. Btw I bought the bark chippings this week and have been waiting for rain so I can put them on wet earth. Think I might water instead tonight as I'd like to get it all put down. Also bought three lavendar plants today to fill in gaps in the lavendar circle in the front garden so I just need to get out there and dig now.
It's the most wonderful timeof the year .....

Well, try as I might, I am still running to stand still. Thought this week may be productive as the past 3 have achieved nothing although I was really busy.

I did manage to collect my new boots from Debenhams, got to say that I am very happy with them, navy suede effect, so started winter prepping! Not done much in the Christmas line, although I did pick up a couple of reed diffusers in Sainsburys for £6 each, so will put them aside as either part or token gifts.

Ikea sale is currently on, so need to nip in there to get some serviettes, they are truly the best value on the market, so I buy a stash when on sale. Think I have also decided to buy some of their white mugs, (well 20 of them!) and use them as my class gifts at Christmas, fill them with sachet of hot chocolate etc, wrap in cellophane & Bob's your uncle. Or I may make fudge? Anyway, whichever I do, the mugs are only 90p each and are decent quality, so can only be on a winner.

Currently going to Slimming World, need to lose a lot, down 1 1/2 st already, had set target of 2 before I go on holidays, if I keep going the way I am, will make it 2 1/2 before I go. The major downside is my clothes are now a tad too big & I don't know what to buy Will need to do a mega spend before I go, but am feeling the benefits immensely, so got to be a good thing.

Good to see familiar names appearing here again, imagine things will start to pick up soon & we will all be posting more often with our bargains! Anyone know when the Christmas cards start to make an appearance? I want to try & have almost everything done by end of October, mid Nov latest, that includes wrapping, I want to be able to enjoy December
Did my LBM in reverseFinally debt free with money in the bank!

I know I am getting old, but there is no need for my consultant to age me by another 10 years 😉

Hi all, please say hello to baby Joshua, born last Monday weighing 8lbs 1oz:

I know some of you have seen him on Instagram but it's only right he's introduced to the Christmas thread.

The timing wasn't great as we were in hospital for the mega heatwave so we were desperate to get out in the end but we've been home a few days now and the weather has definitely cooled off! I'm currently looking out the window at clouds and rain! Is it too much to ask for a sunny day but not too hot? I love being British and never happy with the weather!

I haven't really been able to catch up so I hope you're all ok and i'll hopefully be able to keep up again now, I have more hours in the day now that i'm up half the night again!

I buy most of my clothes from them.

You could buy stuff for your holiday and then re-donate it when more weight comes off.

More MSE than doing a 'mega spend'.

Yay, huge congratulations PRINCESSKITTY, I was thinking of you the other day so glad to know little Joshua has arrived, he's totally gorgeous and what a fabulous picture too. You'll have to edit your signature now

POLLYCAT welcome to the thread - apologies if you've posted before and I missed it, my memory isn't what it was lol.

0462 DH got the bark chippings down yesterday while I was out (just one bag to go) so the rain bedded them in. Unfortunately he lost his balance and fell over so is sporting a grazed chin and head. I've let his doc know as this will be his fourth fall in six weeks, he's got an appointment in August for a Parkinson's assessment although his GP doesn't think it's that but there's definitely something not right. Good luck with the plasterers it's so exciting, bet you can't wait now. Am in awe of your Christmas prep, just can't get myself motivated this time around which is strange to say the least.

VULPIX I'm the same, absolutely no point buying chocolate ahead of time in this house although chocolate oranges would be safe as I don't like them . My DD1 is having real problems losing weight, whatever she does nothing seems to happen (ww, personal trainer, Fitbit) so I've asked a pharmacist friend to give us her opinion on whether DD's arthritis meds might be contributing. She's done ww before and got down to a size 12 but since the baby weight it just isn't happening and I feel so sorry for her. Doesn't help that DD2 is willowy and model like (no idea where she gets it from though).

FREE hope you have a lovely peaceful week and really enjoy your tidy house.

Nothing festive going on here. Still waiting for confirmation from tradesmen for the kitchen move which is really frustrating. Why don't people do what they say they will instead of leaving you hanging on.
It's the most wonderful timeof the year .....

    Hi everybody,

Plasterers have been put back a day as a job they are on is running over, so they are coming friday and saturday now. We don't mind as we have 2 weeks before electrician/joiner comes back to finish skirting boards etc.
Need to ring the Dr tomorrow for another sick note, not ready to go back in yet. Im still resting, the electric shock feeling has gone but I am still in alot of pain. Maybe another week will do it.

pollycat- great idea about charity shops, saves paying out whilst still losing weight
Chrissyg- sounds like a lovely day and christmas bargains are always a good find.
Peppapig- Oh no I hope you DH is ok, that is worrying he has had so many falls. Its good that your DR is on with the tests though. Hopefully is nothing but its best to get it checked out. Christmas prep is on hold as we have got so much to pay out at the moment with the DIY and our holiday soon. It seems to be money money money later. Its a big birthday for my mum in july too and I have no idea what to get her!
Free- wow what a dream! see you are subconsciously thinking about christmas lol
