Disappointing/weird/inappropriate christmas gifts

For Christmas my aunt gave me a big bag of lentils a couple of years back, but my personal favourite was the bright red flannel and bar of soap she got me the year before. My nan died a couple of years back so we don't see much of them now, I appreciated the thought but I'm hoping she doesn't bother with pressies from now on!Strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government0

Oh and honestly - its 10 times worse than that one. There is FAR more " black foliage and spikey-ness" and without the flashing neon lights, its hard to get the "full effect".
In my defence it was one shower scrub (very lovely, have tried it already, and some soap)
Do you know why you ended up with that rather than the gift you wanted?
Any reason why she thought youd like it?0 -
my old mum came in with this huge gift bag for me - and inside was a very small Yankee candle which she insisted was 'night scented stock' and went on for ages about how dad used to grow it - and it wasn't - it was 'night jasmine' which I know dad couldn't get to flower! and a box containing a cheap glass paperweight in the shape of a diamond which I know costs £2.99 in town. and an envelope containing money. I now have received 16 Yankee candles this Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!! I do like candles - but this is a 'record' for this year! and no bluddy idea what to do with a paperweight. The money was good though - it went towards a Kenwood food processor!
16? wow :rotfl: I only got one (I really like that night jasmine one though, it's very 'boys bedroom' and certainly makes my son's room smell better!), and I also got something from Lush, not that I'm bragging :rotfl:
This thread is hilarious - I only wish I had something to add to it. My 17 year old has received teabags off almost everyone - he has nearly 300 teabags :T He doesn't like 'ordinary' tea with milk in, so has received lots of interesting flavours and he's delighted. It's suited him much better than all the Lynx gift sets that he usually gets. You must have mentioned that you like yankee candles
Most of you would probably think my solar powered owls belong in this thread, but I love them, so nerMy husband doesn't want me to put them out front though, and the back doesn't get any sun ... sniff!

A few weeks ago my son's gf very kindly invited us round and cooked us a meal in their new house. Unfortunately, the poor girl was mortified to discover (after she served us and we'd all started eating) that the jacket potatoes were still almost raw! They were rock solid to the point of being inedible. Even more unfortunately, we (me, dh and 2 other children + their partners) all decided individually that it would be funny to give her potato themed Christmas presents. One potato themed present might have been funny, 2 amusing but 10!!!! She received the following:
A trophy (fashioned from tin foil, containing a potato and bearing the words 'World Champion Potato Chef')
A book of 101 Baked Potato Recipes
Novel titled: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
A potato masher
a potato peeler
a set of skewers (for baked potatoes)
a potato gun
A potato clock
a packet of instant Smash
a potato ricer
Luckily she has a great sense of humour and took it all in her stride. I guess it helped that we had all bought her other less potato related gifts too!“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

DD1 isn't, by any chance, a size 12 teenager who wants to go to a festival next year, is she?Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?0 -

I got a gorgeous diary, but on opening it up found each day's section is about 2cm x 10cm. My diary contains everything - to do lists, appointments (with directions & details), shopping lists, birthdays, bank balances, blood test results and insulin doses, literally everything, and everyone I spend any time with has seen me using it, so what am I meant to do with one so small?
The artwork in it is gorgeous though so I am going to cut out the pics and collage them. So it isn't a wasted gift - just used differently to its intended use.Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0 -
