I've just found a lump in my breast

Options
I'm frightened. I just got out of the shower and was putting on talc when I found a lump, a hard, round lump the size of a small marble in my left breast. I'm terrified :(

Get on the phone to your gp immediatly amber and make an appointment. Demand an emergency one if they try to put you off. Chances are this is nothing and if it is then you have caught it early.

If they say they're busy, you only need to tell them the problem and they'll fit you in. If your gp is worried, he'll get you off to be checked asap.

Good luck. I've had 2 of these scares.

Ember... Try not to worry too much. I know that's easy to say.

I've just returned from the hospital after seeing a consultant for results of an ultrasound scan and biopsy on a lump like yours.

It was one of several lumps and biopsies I've had over the years. It again turned out to be benign.

Ember get an appointment with doc straight away. Don't listen to any excuses about them being booked up.
You should see a breast consultant within 2 weeks as is the rule now.
    Most lumps are benign.

    Best wishes .. Maisie

I see that you are offline, so hope that means you've gone off to book a gp appointment. Whether you will need treatment or be given the all clear, the sooner you do so the better.

Let us know how you go on,

    ditto!!

Lots of us have had scares like this and the majority do turn out to be nothing to worry about. Hope you're already at the docs.

I can't phone Doctor till after 2pm. Tried just after I found the lump and got an answer machine telling me surgery is closed till 2pm. I think I am having a panic attack, I can't stop shaking. I keep feeling the lump and it is still there.
I'm so frightened, I don't want to die :( Have I got cancer?

  • The chances are that you haven't got cancer because most breast lumps are not cancerous. You're doing the best thing which is trying to see a doctor as soon as possible.

But just knowing the chances are that it's benign doesn't help with the worry. Have you got someone who can go along with you to the doctor for support, or who could drop in now?

Thank You to everyone who has responded. I just got through to the Doctor and I have an emergency appointment at 4pm. I'll let you know what he says when I get back. Husband is home from work now, I phoned him and told him about the lump.
