Halifax - cant pay bill online immediately?

Halifax have recently changed the way their site works and now when I go to pay a bill, I can't put that days date...it has to be the following day at the earliest.
I dont think I'm missing anything and there isn't the facility to send immediate payment elsewhere on the site.
I keep close account of our finances and I have always transferred when I want to, so I find this change very annoying.
Why would this change have been implemented? I hope this isn't the way of things to come for all banks.

On the spot payment requests from Halifax have always been held back for one day before entering the 3-day BACS cycle. Only future dated requests leave (and enter the BACS system) immediately.
There are two possible reasons for the re-vamp...
1. Many customers are complaining about a (perceived) 4-day BACS cycle, and
2. The imminent introduction of faster payments (May 27th?).0 -
Yes, very annoying.
But as I know, LTSB also like that.
For other payment, it is fine. Because it used to be 4 days anyway.
But for transfer between Halifax and Sainsbury's is not good. Have to wait a day for the transfer to come effect.0 -
As post #2 ..... I think the change merely reflects the reality of how it used to work anyway.
But I do find it irritating that internal transfers have now been removed from individual accounts .... and you can now do them only from the transfer box at the top of the portfolio. Which means you now have to activate both the 'from' and 'target' accounts .. from outside the account you're moving money from. Which increases the potential of error .... for reasons which appear wholly unclear. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
i find it bloody complicated know why mess with things0

It'll be in readiness for Faster Payments after which Halifax will charge you a pound for the privilege of moving your money around the system a bit quicker.0

I quite like the new format of the transfers page but it is VERY irritating not being able to set a transfer for that day. I tried to do one on Thursday and the earliest date it would let me set the transfer for is Monday!?!
Annoying when I need to transfer the bulk of our money for our house purchase to reach my solicitor by Tues 6th May... Have emailed my solicitor today so he makes sure to give me the final invoice by the end of Mon as I don't want to have to pay for the priviledge of transferring money to them!Kavanne

I don't understand your irritation. It's the same now as it's always been (for 'on the spot' requests)!0 -

I thought it would be simple to use so thought I would be OK to just wait and see.
Clearly not, I see how stupid I was now.
Thanks.Kavanne
