So the house I just bought, the back garden ends at a river (semi rural as I like to put it) I also refere to the river as the en-suite river.... cos I'm a bit of a nob like that.
anyway
Theres a fresh water culvert that comes down my drive and disscharges into the en-suite its for rain water etc all clean and good.
Except someone somewhere has decided to attach their bog to it!
So there is plop-age and wee-age and bogroll-age coming out of it,. sort of sliding down the last metre of my garden and into the river.
But my councill havent a real clue where this pipes starts its journey and how many twists and turns it takes (they are responsible for all drainage checks and inspections covering waste fould and fresh water etc)
So tommorow im phoning the river people /environmental health to say 'Oi I have plop-age and its Bury councills fault!'....and just watch the fun unfold.
Theres a manhole at the front of the house which if they dont sort it out will have 2 cubeic metres of concrete in it by saturday morning
Best bit is the firm that makes newsnight and other Tv progs are at the mo looking for dodgey builders from hell victims so I just emailed them my story, I expect they might like it as its unusual and hard to tell what the outcome will be.
One out come that WONT happen is...... I wont be fixing anything and paying anything no matter what happens. weather its coming off my garden or not
But, either way, for someone, the poo is gona hit the fan cos the poo is hitting the en-suite
What are your thoughts and guesses at the outcome of this?
Thanks to MSE member 'Bobproperty' in post 128 of this thread which I have now added here..... this explains the problem and possible implications.
Just so people know what we are talking about on here, this is cut from Wickes's Good Idea Leaflet 74:
DRAINAGE SYSTEMS
There are two types of drainage water: (1) Foul Water (2) Surface water.
Foul Water consists of anything that comes from bathrooms, kitchens, utility rooms, car washing areas etc. This must always go to your foul water drain system.
Surface Water is rainwater only.
In older properties, the existing rainwater pipes are often discharged to the foul drain. This system is known as combined drainage. In a combined system, the rainwater pipes are discharged via gully traps, to stop foul air escaping from the drains.
Modern systems keep the foul water and the surface water apart in separate drains. This is known as a separate drainage system. With this method, the rainwater is discharged either to a soakaway, watercourse or surface water sewer. Draining rainwater to these points does not create foul air. It is extremely important to ensure that you do not connect foul water to a surface water drainage system.
Note: if you are unsure about the drainage system around your house get advice from the Building Control Department before starting any work.
(My bold.)

Are you sure it isn't coming from your own house ..
have you tried flushing the loo and seeing what happens ?0 -
Good Luck!
My guess is, you are going to spend a lot of time (and money) on the phone and a lot of time waiting for enviro officers etc to visit (from experience).
Stick to your guns, tho it will probably take a long (frustrating) while to get sorted.0 -
There is distinct possibility you may well be held responsible for polluting the river, as the sewage enters the river from YOUR property."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

There is a better than disstinct possibility that if they hold me resposible i will do 'F all' about it!
I dont 'do' being held resposible for something I didnt do.
I understand what you are getting at though, and knowing this country if they cant fint the real perpetrator they will try and go for me but that wont help them cos I wont do anything and if they do the work and 'bill' me I wont pay it...I dont 'do' being bullied of over officious morons with non jobs.
Like I say this could get real interesting0 -
get them to take a sample, DNA test it and then do a DNA sweep at every house within the vicinity. Would be expensive, but there would be no denying it......
Either that or get a drain surveying co to send a camera up the pipe and see which way it twists and turn to work it out from there.
Also, did anything come up on your survey.......0 -
This wins the award for "What the Seller Didn't Tell Me" this week I figure.
I love the way you described it. Plopage.
Marvellous... however, not nice.
I look forward to future updates on your plopage.
Photos not required.
P.S. At least the originator of the plopage does not have a baby ... and the assocated nappyage/plopage. . . . yet.0 -

No its classed as an 'issue':rotfl:
Well its a f'ing issue for them now init!...cos the councill are responsible for all drainage laws.
I hate my councill and might ban them from checking it out on my land just to make it harder for them to sort out... because im a nasty git like that0
