I saved up a fair number of vouchers and want to get the full x4 valu rather than selling then on ebay
On the clubcard website they list Airmiles as the 'number one deal' but is this true? Have anyone any experience of clubcard and which deals to go for or aviod?

I use my clubcard vouchers for magazine subscriptions (real bargains here - only need £8-10 of vouchers to get subscription for 12 months) and have also traded them for Goldsmiths the jewerllers vouchers - saved up my tokens over 12 months and managed to get over £400 to spend on myself - bought a nice necklace and earrings - well chuffed!0

I guess it depends on what you want to 'buy' with the vouchers.
I use mine at Bella Italia and also to pay for annual RAC membership for me and my family.
:heartpuls CG :heartpulsEver wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0 -
Yes!!!
I'm really peed off this morning:mad:
It's a long one, so I shall cut n paste the email I have just sent Tesco so you get the gist of it.
My email to them:
"I felt I had to contact you regarding my latest use of Clubcard Deals.
I received £115 worth of deal tokens to use as part payment against a short break at Haven in May. Having already checked the price of our break online, I was very pleased with the price (£241) and thought it was a totally brilliant deal to be saving £115 off of that price.
However, you cannot book online, only through Haven Call Centre. Not a problem so I thought. Or is it? When you call to make your booking with them, once you tell them you will be using your Tesco Clubcard Tokens they adjust the price of the holiday BEFORE using said tokens so that it costs more in the first place and I am therefore saving NOTHING!! I was quoted £375 for the same holiday that costs £241 online, minus my clubcard tokens = £260 therefore actually costing me MORE. That’s hardly fair is it?
I feel I have in essence wasted my quarterly vouchers which I spend large amounts at Tesco every week to accrue.
I have used Clubcard deals against days out before and the saving made is a true one. Theme parks don’t adjust their prices upwards just because you’re using your tokens, and you really do save money – which is wonderful when you have a large family, as I do.
I’m really really disappointed that I have essentially wasted my £29 worth of vouchers and hacked off at Haven that they are taking advantage and being sneaky. Is that the kind of partnership you want? I would be grateful of a considered response to my email.
Yours, a very let down"
So, there you have it. I hope this helps you in some way. Wonder if I'll get a decent response from them?

I can totally understand how disappointed you are MrsMacmum. I was going to save them for that purpose too until I read a very similar post last year from someone else who had had exactly the same experience.
There was quite some talk about some of the deals not being fair at the time.MAY GROCERY CHALLENGE £0/ £250

It's the same with package holidays. If you don't pay with deals, you get discounts such as free child places. If you pay with deals, you don't get any of the discounts.
It's only worthwhile if you have a high amount of deals to pay for all or a high proportion of the holiday. Here I go again on my own....0 -
absolutely.. taking the example above
Full price listed £375
Cash price £241
Tesco price £93.75 of clubcard pts
so instead of getting X4 value .. you got 2.57X , if paying totally with pts
- which I think is not a bad deal, unless you start having to supplement with cash.
I booked a £1900 holiday , which I could have got for £1750 if paying totally in cash -
actually only had £1800 in deal pts (£450 tesco pts) available , but in this case worth paying the extra cash ( could not wait for next quarter , as deal was about to be pulled)
( thats was with XL.... don't think the figures worth out so good with the current range of holiday providers)Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
Yes, this is something we found as well. Last year we used £600 of our points for Butlins for a 4 days break in the summer (we could have never afforded a holdiay at Butlins otherwise) but if we had booked the same break online the day before then it would have cost us £285. Bearing in mind how long it takes to save the vouchers I wish I had saved them and paid cash or gone somewhere else in all honesty.
The most deceptive thing about all of this of course is that when you check the deals website it gives you a link to the website of the company accepting deals and the price it gives you the price you think you are going to pay. And this in my eyes is totally wrong.
I am only ever saying my vouchers for 'big' holidays now otherwise it is not worth it.
PS. You can always return the vouchers unused and get them credited to your card to use again and book the same break later towards when you need to go as it will be cheaper again online!!0 -
Airmiles.....
say Zone 2 1 ticket = 1500 miles which would cost £62.50 in tesco pts ( potential worth £250... although I think x3ish= £187 in my valuation for reasns detailed above re other discounts ) ...
would have thought thats a bit more than a ticket cost on the open market... with more choice! with the "listed" prices generally being from London... being in the the Midlands they are higher/ involve more travelling
Doesn't seem to addup that good for American either... maybe Far East ??Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
Oh yes, in regard to airmiles.
2 years ago we did have a lot of points (£1600) and wanted to use these for Florida. If we had used them on airmiles then we would have enough for 4 return flights with added cash payment of £1200!! Now the flights only cost £1500 if I was buying them off the website. So it would of meant using £1600 voucher of deals to pay for £300 towards flights. I beleive that you still have to pay the taxes on the flights, it only covers the flight costs.
I would never use them for Airmiles but maybe people who get business airmiles use CC to 'top up' and this makes it worthwhile. For us it was better to use them for the holiday as we had to top up with around £480 for a 14 day holiday.
Even if you don't want their accomodation then use them for cheaper than cheap accomodation and flights and then pay for your own accomodation at the resort you want.
As an example, (in our more flush days way back when, LOL!!) we wanted to stay at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge for 7 days, Expedia quoted us £980 for 7 days. Virgin wanted..... and I still do not beleive this, for a LOWER standard room, listed on the holiday breakdown..... £2500 for the same time and the same week. How on earth is this justified?
But anyway, lets say we had booked with Virgin for this holiday we would have needed just shy of £6000 for this particular holiday. If we had done it ourselves we worked out we could have had the flights for £1250 online, the Disney accomodation via expedia (they give free transfers from the airport to resort saving the transfers price as we don't drive) for £980 in AKL, another 5* resort for £550 (£1000+ for the same in Virgins brochure) so almost half the cost. of course, if you have managed to save £5k in vouchers then of course Virgin will get them but even if they get half face value from Tesco then they are still onto a winner!!
So if this info helps in paying for your flights then do it that way. Don't be hasty in booking and write everything down first to make sure you are getting the best deal if you are parting with any cash towards your holiday!0 -
I use mine in yates pub, two meals for 6.95 and you can pay with vouchers. our local one also lets you get the drinks in as long as you are eating. We go every week and use money for holidays to get the best deals.0
