Default The Norn Iron weight loss club

Following on from a post by janren on another thread, I have decided to start a NI weight loss club. Anyone who wants to join in, feel free to do so with hints, tips and motivation. You may if you wish like to add your current weight and your goal to the post, though it's not compulsory to do so.

The current main weight loss thread can be found HERE on the I wanna board.

Alternatively, there's also Murphy's no more pies club in the Arms

Good luck to all and I hope you reach your goals in 2008

Smile confessions of a yo-yo dieter

....here goes with my diet 'confessional'.....gulp!

i've been dieting on and off since my early twenties.....

I can remember being 9st 4lbs in my early twenties, but from my mid-twenties I allowed my weight to balloon until a couple of years ago, then made a huge diet effort from the last quarter of 2005 through to May 2006, lost 4st 9lbs in total (although I still had another 2st 9lbs to lose .... yes, i was indeed a blob) but then fell off the diet wagon in June 2006 , and the weight has been slowly creeping back on.

i'm not at my heaviest now, thankfully, but quite bad enough - when I got on the scales after Xmas I thought ok, enough is enough! I've been calorie-counting for 4 weeks now, taking it easy to begin with on circa 1500kcals per day, have lost 9lbs so far but still got another 4st 9lbs to lose

of course my incentive and target needs to be about making a lifestyle change in and of itself, however I must admit that a holiday i have booked for september this year is spurring me on

i guess i am interested in what's motivating everyone else - what made you start your diet/weight loss plan?

I'm really struggling to get ANY weight off. Basically because I'm intrinsically lazy. I walk a lot at work during the day, so when I get home, doing any exercise just seems like too much hard work
My current weight is approx 1.5 stone over what I should be and my body fat is calculated at 33% *gulp*

I need real help, support and incentives, please

Hi, i'm fat and 40 and trying to do something about it.

I've put on nearly 3 and a half stone since I had my son in Jan 2006.

The reasons are simple, i'm very happy and content with my OH We love cooking ,eating ,drinking (way too much) and having friends round.

Although i'm very happy with my life i'm not happy with how I look and with my fitness.

It really doesn't help that my OH doesn't think I need to lose weight and tells me not to worry.

We've booked a holiday for the 3rd week in August in and I want to be able to go on the beach and run round after the kids without everyone thinking...Jaysis look at the fat bird

That gives me 6 months and i'm aiming to lose 3 stone.

I'm using the Weight Watchers books I have from a few years ago but not actually attending the meetings. Uses a points system but is basically a low fat healthy eating plan encouraging you to eat lots of fruit and veg.

I'm 32, walk to work Mon-Friday a mile and a half each way, sitting down in front of a PC from 9-5, jump on a rowing machine i have at home for about 20 mins three times a week, that's about it for me...

For me, cutting calories is the single most important thing I can do to lose weight - last time I lost weight I tried to figure out how much different exercising a lot made to my weight loss, and to be honest it made very little difference, but maybe that's just me Now, toning up is a different matter, most definitely very useful for that.

I love the book by Lee Janogly, 'Only fat people skip breakfast'. It was the one thing that gave me a kick up the bum last time, confronted me with all kinds of horrible truths about my situation ...... ...going to dig it out and start reading again...

Please count me in as well.
I have been half doing weight watchers since January, go it one week and off the next, BUT tomorrow has to be a big change for me cause we are going away in 12 weeks.
I have a good bit to loose and am too embarrassed to post it on here, but aiming for it to come off at least 2lb a week.
I am doing the ww from an old book i have as well and am following the points plan which i find it easier than the switch program as i am no good at portion control.

Yeah I'll join this too, I've gained more weight since the birth of my daughter than I did in pregnancy!

I'll not scare you all with the stats but it's not good, have a few stone to lose, really need someone to call at my house and make me get out and exercise, failing that tape my mouth!

This was a great site I came across last year when I was starting my weightloss then hahaha

Hi Irishmummy,

Don't be embarrassed ,i'm sure we all agree no one has to give their actual weight if they don't feel comfortable with it. Just how much they aim to lose and their weekly progress?

The Weight Watchers points plan is brilliant.I used it about 10 years ago after one of my boys was born and lost 2 stone.

It is a bit time consuming for the first couple of weeks because you need to look up the points and weigh everything. But you soon get to know the points value of most of the foods you eat regularly and it gets easier.

Hi

Can I join please.

I am going to WW at the minute, I have had a week off it and think that I have probably put on what I lost this year.

WW does work but you need to plan ahead and distract yourself when you fell the eating urge and you know that you are not hungry.

I found I can be "good" during the day but usually fancy something in the evenings. I try to leave enough points over for a small bowl of cereal.

The no points weight watchers soup is great to snack on if you get hungry aswell especially over the winter months. But as you say you have to be organised enough to make things in advance.

Hi, I wasn't sure about joining till i realised that i was looking up my old weight loss stuff and had got out a ww recipe book. So just reading the thread seems to have somehow motivated me! I was in ww a couple of years ago and it worked to some degree but mainly because of the talks and the food ideas at these. I didn't get on with the points at all. I'm looking at getting a kick up the wotsit to get me moving as i think that will make a big difference to me.
Oh and I've a few stone to lose as well.

With WW I find the points a pain to a degree but if you use them and stick to them you WILL lose weight.

Also I love my drink and wouldn't stick to a diet that had no allowance for alcohol.

With WW you can choose to save a few points per day for the weekend and use them for drinks, takeaways etc.

When you want to save a few daily points it really does teach you to go for the healthy options

I assume that you're using scales at home that calculate the %? If so, have you tried changing from female to male? I did and I lost 10% body fat. Which was nice. Since then I've not really wanted to trust the body fat % on my scales. I'll just look at the numbers..

Do we post here or on the other thread?
Anyway if it's in the wrong place i'm sure a kindly mod will move it for me.

I hate Monday mornings as they are so busy for me, i go get the weekly shop, then take mum to work so by noon came i was starving as i didn't get time for breakfast, so the choice was mcdonalds or a sandwich from m&s, not exactly money saving but at least i wouldn't be putting the lbs on my waistline.
Dh wants to go to Ed's for a special meal out but i'm not so sure, think i can persuade him to have dinner at home and i'll cook something nice. I still have 21 points left for dinner and a wee snack tonight when i'm watching tv.

I had used the weight, height, body fat machine thingy in boots and also have a hand held calculator. You input your height, weight, age and so on, then you hold it for 30 seconds and it monitors you via the sensors. No idea if it's accurate or not but it seemed like a good idea when I bought it in JJB sports for 45p yesterday
