Shall I get on my Bike?

I have a dilemma :

I work in a town and it is increasingly difficult to park the car. It costs £2.00 a day to park in the staff car park which is £40 a month and I often can't get in. If I park in the surrounding streets angry residents often have a go at me, which is understandable. These streets will soon be permits only anyway.

I used to bike often in the past, but I guess I've got lazy. I thought it was 7 miles but I clocked it today and it's only 5.

There are pro's and con's and I know that I really should just bike but I don't really want to:rotfl:

The Pro's:
  • Saving £40 on car parking fees and about £50 on petrol ( I could actually get rid of the car completely as Mr Frog has a car that I could use to go shopping in et.c)
  • It would help with the getting fit
  • I wont be able to call into the shops on the way home and buy binge food as I can't carry it all
  • It's greener
The Con's:
  • I don't want to
  • It will be cold
  • It might rain
  • I don't want to
  • I wont be able to call into the shops on the way home and buy binge food!
  • I don't want to
What do you all think? The car has a MOT in April and it will need alot to pass so we've already decieded to get rid of it then. I guess I'm just bringing it on a little earlier. I usually get held up in traffic anyway so it wont take me much longer, also my boss doesn't mind what time I get in so I can start later. I guess I'm talking myself into it aren't I?

Seems the worst time of year to be getting on a bike.. rotten soggy weather n all that...

    HMMM

I knew that was a mistake :rotfl: :rotfl:

I did say that i should say "yes" though.... to be honest i think that if you are getting in all horrid cold n soggy most days... chances are you will end up eating extras to warm you up and make you feel better..and will kick yourself for getting rid of the car...
but if it fails the MOT and you HAVE to get rid.. it will be a whole different thing -plus the weather will be picking up then too :D

£100 is alot of money to spend on getting to work though. Not to mention tax and insurance ~ you really aren't helping much are you?

    Hi Frogga

To be completely honest I agree with mrsmcawber leave it till after this winter, that way by the time next winter comes around you will be used to the ride (fitter, timings, dangerspots in the dark etc) and it will give you time through the year to buy waterproofs and other accesories ready for next winter.

But what I really meant to say was YES I think it's a great idea....

Get your bike out now, think of all the money you will save, and how fit you will be

Mind you, I am sitting here waiting for it to stop raining so I can take the dog out, so maybe I should just keep quiet :o
You're only young once, but you can be immature forever :D
  • Frogga Get On That Bike  :T :j

Just think how more quickly you'll lose weight, and the exercise will help you to tone up, too :D;)

    Penny. x

Edit - it has put that old joke back into my mind, though - a woman needs a man like a frog needs a bicycle :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

What about promising yourself to do at least two days a week this side of Xmas? Then if the weathers really bad it can be a car day and if it's cool and dry it could be a bike day? Then build it up? The worst weather usually hits late Jan/Feb so you might need a car then!

I have a lot of respect for you. Ok, I'm overweight and very unfit so it would be hard for me at the mo, but I take the car only 2 miles to work and pay up to £3 a day. I need to learn from you!

    Go for it!
