Oooh well done Frogga!
I cycle to work every day and to be honest it's the best bit of my day. I am neither youthful nor slender and am always the overtakee not the overtaker! It doesn't matter though, if you have good waterproofs and definitely gloves in this weather you'll be fine, in fact you'll probably get so hot you will have to shed a few layers and arrive at work in your T- shirt even in winter. One thing I do recommend like a previous poster is some sort of high viz jacket. I have a builder's waistcoat type thing which makes me look daft, but as I tell my embarrassed kids, better a live wally than a dead one. Oops that didn't come out quite right, not toooo encouraging there.......
You will soon get used to it and may become an addict, on the days I have to drive for some reason I tend to feel a little, well, lemming like, stuck in a metal box with all the others.
Lots of love,

Oooh again! I forgot to say, cycling is the best way to find money on the ground - OK my Finders Keepers club total isn't exactly forging ahead but do keep you eyes peeled, a lot of money is dropped and ends up in the gutter, unseen by pedestrians and motorists- only cyclists!Up Jacob's Creek without a paddle!0

Someone suggested that on wet days you could catch a bus frogga - with that tongue! :rotfl:
Let me just say this - it made me laugh.....0 -
Well done Frogga for another day - I'm so impressed at 2 miles straight off. I went out again this morning and it was so much easier already - although I'm only up to about 3/4 mile. However I have set myself a target of Tesco and back (4miles) by the end of Noivember and I wouldn't have done it without this thread.
One question - I've never had derailleur gears before. Is 1 the lowest gear like a car - it seems to be and also how do you use the H - L one one the other side. Sorry for the stupid question - but I'm sure there's someone out there to help.“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

It's no good asking me thriftmonster, I keep mine at 4 medium all the way!:rotfl:
Yesterday on the way home I had an unpleasent experience :
I am a bit wobbly when I pull off and I kind of cycled accross into the path of a builders van.
The passenger leaned out of the window and shouted
"Get out of the way you stupid fat cow"
Charming isn't it? I mean honestly!
I said back
"Are you blind? I'm a Frog you Moron!"

I'm guessing the H-L gear is for the chain wheel, i.e. the one at the front where the cranks and pedals are connected. Unlike the back cassette, the smaller the wheel here the easier it is to pedal. The smallest chain wheel is sometimes called "granny gear" (although not by me!). If you're going up a steep hill this will make pedalling easier but of course you'll go a lot slower.0_o0 -
