Shall I get on my Bike?

Thanks Lazy_Daisy for bumping this thread.
I have just got a new bike (two weeeks ago) after mine was pinched two years ago and for the first time ever I am starting to understand the gears :T thanks reading this thread and Two_Sheds easy explanation of the gears.
My legs ached much less today after my cycle ride home and cycling on the balls of my feet made it much easierMortgage Owed: Sept 14 - £107398.200 -
I cycle to work everyday too - its very close but I use mine for shopping etc too as it has a basket.
I was REALLY lucky as my work has a scheme where you kinda hire-purchase the bike through some government scheme & pay it back before tax making it loads cheaper......I managed to get.....a PASHLEY !!!!!!!
Have you come to the end of that scheme yet? my work has changed their simple get a loan and pay it back through your salary scheme to this government scheme but it says that at the end you can buy the bike for a nominal fee - i am wondering what the nominal fee isUnless I read it wrong which is possible. I already commute to work by bike but fancy something more suitable for touring
I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080 -
I've started cycling to work, about 8 miles each way. In this weather it's great, and I arrive feeling energised and ready to start the day. Only problem is that we have no shower facilities, so I have to take a flannel and towel for a strip wash before starting work

Frogga; Just a thought, but I wonder if you've ever considered getting a scooter instead of another car? I read how your tadpole was poorly and you needed to get there quickly, which, obviously, on a bicycle is impossible. But, if you hold a full car licence I'm almost certain you can legally drive a 50cc scooter without a test or 'L' plates, and take a passenger. Of course, if I'm wrong, I'm sure somebody here will be able to correct me. A scooter costs very little compared to a car, is cheap and easy to maintain, I think the annual road tax is about £15 and they'll run for miles (top speed around 30mph) on a couple of pounds worth of fuel.
Just a thought....

Cant find the paperwork right now, but it really is a nominal fee:money: something in the bacl of my head is saying £1.01p but i might be completely off on that :rotfl: My scheme will end in Nov I think if I remember right...I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0 -
Hi Dutchy,
Yes that is a great idea and defo one I wanted to pursue :T
I have a reason against at the moment which I'm sure will sound PATHETIC to alot of you, but I am overweight, although with the help of the WL thread I am getting there, and so until that weight is gone I'd feel a pratt on a scooter
Absolutly gonna get one when I'm thin thoughSay it once, say it loud ~ I'm an Atheist, Anti-Royalist, Socialist, Tea-Total Veggie Frog and PROUD!:D

Well Penny you put me to shame. If I have an afternoon shift overtime I cycle the 7 miles to work. But as I start at 5.30 am I can't bring myself to get up even earlier. My ds finds me quite infuriating as I cycle constantly at 7 mph, except downhill. And there isn't any downhill on the way to where I work.
It is bad enough getting up at 4.30 never mind 3.30.
Mind you I don't get the sweating problem as I don't go fast enough to make me sweat.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

see ive been toying with the idea of getting a bike as im now only 2 miles from uni and it would be nice to cycle to and from (currently walk to and try to get a lift home, but a bike would make me cycle home to save hassle). The only thing that worries me is actually cycling on the road, there are no cycle lanes around here. Im afraid all those car drivers will want to run me over lol0

OLDSTYLE!!!!!
Selling my van, getting a push bike and saving £350+ a month.
My van is owned by me, but my insurance is £200 a month plus the monthly amount of tax £16ish a month. And then diesel on top of that easily go through £100+ of diesel and thats getting easier with the damn fuel prices going UP
So after a long chat with my OH we are selling the van - paying off overdraft with the money we make. Getting him a Scooter for work and me a push bike. And until we move into a mortgaged house we will not be getting a car.
£350 a month for a year is £4200 :j the scooter will cost an initial cost of £900 including scooter, helmet, jacket, CBT test, driving licence, tax and a years insurance. Leaving only MOT and petrol to pay for. £3300 isnt bad :money:
So sad i wont be able to drive but the savings is enough to convince me to sell up :rotfl:
Anyone else done this? how have you coped?

We have an older thread - shall I get on my bike? I'll add yours to it later to keep suggetsions together.
You might also want to take a look at the Green and Ethical Board. That has more threads on this subject.
Good luck, Penny. x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0
