UPDATE NOTE: 15 AUGUST 12.00pm
The AA has now reduced this offer on all cashback sites, only offering £10 cashback, making the breakdown cover £23.60 no where near as good a deal as before. For details on how to get basic cover for £14 with Tesco Clubcard deals or full service for £34 read the Breakdown Cover: Get the cheapest article.
What's the deal?
The AA has cut the cost of its breakdown cover by up to 25% if it's bought online. Plus, if you buy it via a free cashback site, you can get most of its cost back anyway.
AA membership for £8.60
This is all about using cashback sites. The AA's Option 100 Vehicle Membership breakdown cover costs £33.60 after their discount. Yet sign-up via a cashback site and you get £25 cashback; meaning a total cost of £8.60.
For those unfamilliar with cashback sites they're simply a form of advertising that list product providers and retailers, and get paid for ‘providing leads’ when you click through them. Yet with these sites some or all of the revenue raised from your click is paid directly to you.
The top AA cashback sites are Topcashback and Quidco which give £25, although the latter charges newcomers a £5 admin fee to cover its costs. If you are going to use a cashback site for the first time, read the Top Cashback Sites article for a full explanation of the pros and cons of doing so; the cashback is usually paid but never guaranteed.
This deal only lasts a year
Remember this is a one year deal, renewal next year will be at full price. So ensure you put the date in your diary to check back here for a cheaper offer first.
What does the basic cover include?
It's the AA's basic vehicle cover, meaning the car, not the person is covered for roadside assistance anywhere in the UK 24 hours a day, providing you're at least 1/4 mile away from home. Additionally, if your car can't be fixed by the roadside you'll be towed to the nearest garage or an alternative destination that's no further.
What if I want a better AA policy?
You can get other AA membership policies the same way but obviously the more expensive the policy the less effective impact the cashback deal. If you're looking to do that its worth comparing it with the very cheap standard deals available; see the Cheapest Breakdown Cover article for details.
Warning! Go quick!
The weekly e-mail now goes out to over 1.3million people, and last time an offer like this was included the cashback sites pulled their cashback offers quickly, so grab it now if you want it.

NB. Until 9am on Wed - there was a second step involving nectar that got you an even bigger discount. That's now been pulled; so I've taken it out of the notes above. Plus originally the online discount was 30% so the saving was a little bigger. If you see mention of these in the discussion below; you'll understand why.

Excellent - just bagged this deal!
Was nowhere to enter the Nectar code though when going through the application. Will be on the phone to them tomorrow to see if this can be added.Mortgage as Sept 2012: £96,000
Mortgage free: When i'm 39 / Sept 2023
Mortgage repayment = £588
Tracker Rate 1.99% above base: 2.49%0 -
Good deal but be careful of being greedy - sometimes the cashback is rejected if another promotion is used. Personally I would rather be content with the cashback than risk this for the Nectar points but good luck to those who try.If money saving starts to involve irritation or frustration the fine line between thrift and greed should be examined.0

I have just suscribed through Quidco. What a bargain!!
I echo the Nectar card thing. There is no where to enter the code, just the card number. But if you go through Nectar's website, you will have a box to enter the promotion code.
Thank youBe nice, life is too short to be anything else.0 -

Hi, is anyone else unable to get through to the AA site or RAC through Quidco? I can get through to lots of other sites through Quidco but seem to struggle with ad.uk.doubleclick.net links.
Any clues or simlilar experiences?

It's the vehicle that's registered and it will not accept cars more
than 10 years old. That was my much cherished Renault 19 had it.
Great deal though.
EKokay.

 Great deal! Thank you!
To the PP, no need to ring them - if you click on Martin's link above to the Nectar website, you'll see some small print where they direct you via a link to an online form where you can fill in your AA membership number, Nectar card number and the BA01 code and they say they'll credit the points owed within 28 days.

I did something similar with Green Flag, I paid £26.25 and got £20 back from Quidco so only paid £6.25 which I'm very happy with0
