Weekly Flylady Thread 25th June 2007

Options
Welcome to the weekly flylady thread. If you need help organising your week when it comes to housework, or just the motivation to do the dreaded housework tasks you have to do, come and join us, hopefully make it a little easier. You never know, you might start to enjoy it!

Following requests to start things steadier for new members who did not realise the tasks list wasn’t a must do, just an encouragement, we now have levels. There will now be level 1, 2 and 3. Level 1 being very basic it has been requested that this is just one task per day, level 2 in the middle, up to 3 which is more advanced and time consuming. If you want to do level 2 you add the tasks on level 1 with the level 2 tasks, if you want to do level 3 you add the tasks on, easy peasy. Choose a level to aim for but be realistic, if you’ve got a busy day on or are just starting etc aim for level one, if you get higher then great, if not then not to worry its only suggestions. Every room comes back around next week. Trust me some days I'll only be doing level one myself.

THESE LISTS ARE ONLY SUGGESTIONS AND NOT A MUST DO LIST, ALWAYS WELCOME TO POST AND FOLLOW YOUR OWN.

Also adding a declutter mission each day. Another one where it’s up to you if you want to do it or if you need to. This follows requests from members who are looking to declutter. Fling boogies, hotspot clearing, cupboard sorts, drawer sorts etc will all be on this list. Any problems with this of any suggestions do please let me know.

A few of the basics before we start the week:

Hotspots are any areas which if one thing gets put there loads of other things follow!

Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc

Nighttime routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.

27 Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a binbag and whizz around the house finding 27 items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.

Swish and swipe means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis

Thanks for the new list Lil-me I have just finished catching up with Friday!

I have done really well this week but still find it a bit depressing that downstairs is trashed again and garden really needs some attention if only it would stop raining!

I have this week all planned out so should be organized but as we all know best laid plans and all that. This week I really want to get on top of having meals planned in advance rather than the 4:30 what shall I do for tea routine. I have also promised OH that we will start sorting the garage dumping ground on Wednesday, freecycled the wood from there today so that is gone, I am hoping it is one of those jobs which seems worse than it is.

    See you all tomorrow

Scaredy cat welcome back, pleased to hear you've had some lovely me time which has helped you focus when you got back.

Dusty, wishing you the best of luck with the garage, and I definately know what you mean with the garden on the nice day we had we had 3 appointments it's a wilderness out there, we have a shed and it scares me to think what would happen if we had a garage. DP is a HORDER! He says he's not but he's worse than me!

I need to be on track this week, need to go top shopping tomorrow if I don't find one tonight as had no luck so far, got the funeral to go to on Tuesday and another couple of appointments to be at so will have to keep on track or the lot will fall apart as usual. Oh and an assignment I have barely even looked at which needs handing in.

Deep breaths and count to 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi everyone

It seems the dishwasher is not at fault for the flooding but the main sink waste pipe. When Dad got here and pulled the kick board away from the bottom of the sink unit we found even more soggy floor and some more mould . Then he and my friend's BF took the back of the cupboard out to find the plaster on the wall soaking and falling off. The builders never properly connected the waste pipe in the first place and 8 years later.... it seems it was positioned more or less right but not connected properly. So when water was let out some was leaking back in.

The upshot of all this we now need new lino but DH and I had previously discussed putting tiles down instead, seems as good a time as any now. So when the floor has dried out totally then we shall see about getting that sorted.

We didn't get out for our girly trip but we did do some research on the net about the solar system, DD is doing that at school, she was really pleased as we found some great pics and info. Our trip is postponed until probably next w/e.

Hope you have all had a better w/e than we have!

Thank you, Lil_me, for posting this thread. I am desperately hoping that it will get me on track.

Need to get the house straight if we are going to sell it. And there is so much stuff!

Good luck with the assignment. As a newbie, I don't know the background, but I hope it is an easy one!

Starting tomorrow, I have my list of dailies, my list of weeklies, my determination to log on here to get going (and only check this thread!!!).

    Flying here I come!

    Always another chapter

AnW'sMum I can truly relate to the soggy floor. It was after finding a long term leakage problem, also behind the dishwasher, that we had a little seedling growing up in the cracks between our tiles. At least your lino should have stopped bits of garden growing in your kitchen!

I'm looking forward to doing a bit of flying tomorrow after school. We've had DD and DGD here since Friday afternoon :j and whilst it's been lovely it's been difficult to get much done ... I have to play with DGD a lot. And I love every minute of it but I would quite like to have a tidied house too. I don't know how you all manage to keep on top of everything with little ones.. they're just too beguiling.

I just want to say a huge THANK YOU lil-me for your postings. What a difference a day makes (well two to be correct) I downloaded last weeks tasks and this weekend have got so much more done than usual. I started a part time job about 8 weeks ago and having been a housewife for the last 16 years it has been quite a shock to the system ! You made me realise that it doesn't have to be perfect just clean. ( I'm no Anthea Turner :o thats for sure!) I hope that you have a super week, and thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! :A x
P.S. I hope you are not Anthea!
P.P.S. Off to bed tonight with a clean Bathroom, Kitchen, Utility Room, Downstairs Toilet, Breakfast Room, Hall, Stairs and Landing, Washing almost done icon14.gif (despite the weather) Ironing almost done icon14.gif (I hate it!) Clean Bedding and Hubby!icon12.gif :T

Had a busy day today. Did two 27 fling boogies, one of kiddies clothes and another of unwanted clutter from front bedroom. Threw away loads of old postcards people had sent me from around the world when I was a student. I had them arranged in a pretty collage in a big frame - cheap and cheerful. Have held on to those old postcards for years. Was nice to relive some of those memories of friends from ages ago, but it's time to move on now...

Talking of moving on. I'm now off to watch last night's Dr Who, with a warm cup of tea and a warm OH ;)

    Happy flying tomorrow.
You only get one go at life, so grab it where it hurts, shake it hard and get everything out of it you can!
  • Had a busy day today, pretty much done everything I set out to do, am absolutely shattered now, but the house looks the best it's looked all week. Ok it's not perfect, but everything is tidied away, so a week of flying and it should be clean as well as tidy.

Manic Monday - Kitchen and Dining Room
    Level One

Clean floors - no point there's very little of the floor visible at the moment, and the dining room still needs the ceiling plastered.
    Level Two
Clear and wipe kitchen surfaces - done

Clean cupboard door fronts and the front of appliances - done
Sort fridge bringing what needs using soon to the front - done
Wipe dining table (clean table cloth if necessary) - don't have one of those and the kitchen table has the little chest of drawers from the lounge ontop of it
    Level Three
Dust any extra furniture in dining room, checking for cobwebs on way round
    - done
Wipe window sills, clean any marks off windows if required - done
Wash the washer drawer out if it's gunky - don't use it, so it's not gunky
Clean oven if you didn’t do it last week
    Extra Mission:
    Choose one or more of:
    • Wipe the outside of all your small appliances (kettle, toaster etc) - done
    • Take a duster and wipe around the tops of your door frames – as many as you can manage in 5 minutes - done all of downstairs
    • Use a wire coat hanger and a duster to get down behind the radiator and get them bits you never normally reach
    • Clean under small appliances and bigger ones if you can manage it - done
    Monday's extras
Clean the top of the fridge freezer
Update finances spread sheet - done
Update house to do list - done
Finish off the filing in the lounge - done some more, may need a bit of a touch up when dry

    Studying evening - done
Make lunch for tuesday - done
    Debts: Mum £3923 0% APR
  • Right - DS2 using the very new and shiny keyboard as a nappy-alternative not withstanding, we are getting back on the job. Oven shelves are soaking in the bath, main part of packed lunches are made and in the fridge and I have lost count of how many flinging boogies I've managed this weekend. I feel a definite whizz in the air and I'm determined to make the most of it before the men in white coats come with the pills to bring me back down (its official, by the way: I am really well and truly barking...)
    Is it home time yet?
