End of Conran Card

Hi

I got a letter this morning from MBNA saying the Conran Card is ending and we will not get profit share for purchases after 31 March  The card will become a normal MBNA card. We will be credited with cashback owed on the April statement.

I only applied for this card last month and haven't even had my first statement yet! I will get about £1  Looks like I need to apply for another cashback card  How annoying.

  • I only moved across to the conran card a couple of months back after using the amex blue for a year as I wanted a single card that I could use everywhere, the curse of amex being that so many places don't take it. So you're not alone in the search for a new cashabck card :(

Strange...their website has not been updated so people could still be applying for this card when in fact it will end up being a standard MBNA card.

Very sorry to be losing the cashback however I have loathed MBNA's administration of the Conran card and will be happy to cut up this card!
  • I have had mine for 2-3 years and have loved it. Oh well I'll have to look for an alternative.

I'm gutted. I quite often used to rack up between £150-£200 in cashback using this card as I too was finding the Plat. Amex card hard to use in shops etc.

What's the alternative? An Egg card?

I feel compelled to leap to Amex’s defence as I use mine all the time! I suppose it depends where you shop but the bulk of my spending (apart from the mortgage) is at supermarkets and petrol stations. All the supermarkets in our area (Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsburys) all take Amex. As far as petrol stations go, I only use Shell and they accept Amex. There is of course a hold thread about this so I’m not trying to take this thread off topic.

Yes, Egg is a good alternative but I hardly ever have to use mine.
  • I'm really fed up about this as they must have known it was in the pipeline when they accepted my application a month or so ago. Since I'm in the process of changing bank accounts etc, I don't want my credit score to be affected by me applying for yet another new card.
    Bum.

yes, received letter as well this morning. Applied last Oct, still have all balance on the card. Hope they don't start charging me interest!

I'm somewhat annoyed that one apparently stops accruing cashback form the March statement. For me, that was 6th March, and I've just spent a lot of money on the card expecting to get cashback!

Does anyone know if Conran will be partnering with someone else? I have no intention of keeping the card as an MBNA card.

As I know that you only will not earn cashback after March 2007 statement and not from March statement. So your spending on 6th March still attracted cashback.

    Hi

Yep got my letter as well very strange! But hey i contacted Egg Money about getting a new card from them. They inform me that there 1% cash back is only guaranteed until the end of March 2007. The CS girl told me she had spoken to senior managers about if it is being extended and a decision has not been made yet by Egg directors. So not sure if i should apply only for Egg to drop their 1% cash back????

Anybody know if they are going to pay back the cash back straight away ???
I say what I like, I like what I say!
