Boys into Ladies Toilets

Hiya

Don't know where to post this, so please feel free to move it if necessary.

My son is nearly 8 and I have been worried about this age because it is edging closer to the point where it will no longer be appropriate for him to visit the ladies toilet with me.

I am loathed to let him go into the men's toilets as I can't protect him there, but know there will come a time when I will have to let him.

What do others think about this / done with their own children ?

Use the disabled toilet (providing there is no-one needing to use that toilet).

I am teaching DS to do this.

P.S. i know what you mean, terrible that you can't feel comfortable in even letting children go to public toilets on their own!

My eldest son is 11 in may and he has been using the mens toilets on his own since he was about 8 or 9
if we are out and my hubby isnt with us.

I always wait right outside for him and he knows that if he feels uncomfortable to come straight out etc but I havent had a problem TBH

i know what u mean about public toilets i take my 5 year old boy in ladies with me its sad int it when u feel that way,i suppose when hes about 10 i might let him use the gents lol

with so much stuff going on with strangers, and in cases even people you know it so very sad.. i would use the disabled if nobody was using or needed to. thats what i will do in the future my sons are still under the age of 3 so a few yrs yet x

I get mine to use the disabled. They are 6 and 8. If there are no disabled around I make them come in with me.

There is a notice in our swimming pool that says no boys over the age of 7 are allowed in the ladies changing room. But there is only 1 tiny 'family' room which is as you can imagine always in use. I just let the boys come in the ladies with me one is 8 the other 6. Not sure when I will let them go to the mens but suppose I am lucky there are the two of them to stick together.

I was at the swimming pool the other day, changing in the ladies', and there was a mother in there with two sons who I swear were about 10 and 12 years old. They were taking FAR too much interest in watching me and the other women change! :eek:

I appreciate your concern for your sons, but please don't let them get into double figures!

I would let him go provided that you are waiting outside for him. He has to grow up some time and learn about doing this. He just needs to know not to talk to anybody whilst in there and just do his business and come out again. Of course you can't be with him whilst he's in there, but the chances of something happening are pretty slim. If it were going to happen, the person perpretrating the crime would make sure they weren't going to get caught, and would know you were waiting outside.
