  • It's Intel's older dual core processor though, and there is no description of the monitor...

Older is not always worse, The new Duo Cores are mainly slower

And no mention of a monitor because like all Aldi PCs there is not one, Base unit Only!

I have used Medion Computers for over 5 years, never a spot of trouble.

    Brilliant value.

vicky do you know what the gfx card and motherboard are?

Also, you are wrong regarding the processor. The Pentium D915 is a Presler core processor and is in fact the slowest Intel Pentium chip on the market today.

ALL newer Intel Core 2 Duo processors perform faster than this chip.

Could still be a good price, but need to get a better look at the spec.

I bought my Medion PC from Aldi back in November 2003 and have, on the whole, been very pleased with it. When I'd had it a week or two, I thought there may be a problem with the DVD drive. Called them and a couple of days later somebody came to replace it. Only criticism I have would be the graphics card, which has been replaced twice in three years (the fans don't seem to be very good).
  • There are no details on the Mbd yet,

    The Graphics are Nvidia 7300SE

Like others here I have used Medion PCs for years, and on the whole they are excellent value

    Case £40
    Motherboard £40
    CPU + Fan £60
    Memory £50
    Gfx Board £70
    TV Tuner £30
    DVD Writer £30
    Kybd Mse £10
    Hard Drive £50

    = £380

Take into account the 3 Year onsite Warranty (Worth at least £80)
Windows Vista Home Premium (Worth at least £80)

And there is no way you could build the systme for the price

OK its not going to suit everyone,

But as a general home PC its a good deal, I am typing this on one of the old 8080 series from 3 years ago, and it still runs as my day yo day pc.

Had the onsite warranty used twice in 3 years (Both cases fan went on Video card). apart from that faultless performance for 3 years.
Only criticism I have would be the graphics card, which has been replaced twice in three years (the fans don't seem to be very good).

Note the new unit uses a NVidia 7300SE Video card which is Fanless!!! Passive Cooling

I have also had a medion PC for 3+ years and it has been very very good. Was excellent value at the time and is still running decently with only minor upgrades. My fan does make a racket and proabably needs replacing and I also hear that their aftersales service can be a little dodgy but I have never had to use it so couldnt comment.

I suppose somebody will be able to build one for marginally cheaper though!! :)

If it IS going to be £399, I'm not convinced Aldi's Medion deals are the killer ones they used to be, tbh.
  • Personally I think it will be £349.99 (Hoping for £299.99!!)

Considering Staples are doing a similar Gateway PC for £299.99 at the moment

(£299.99 Inc Vat instore + 5% Reward Voucher with a Staples Reward Card = £285.00)

    £297.02 Online at Staples

    Gateway GT5042

    Features

Processor Type Intel Pentium D 915 Dual
    Processor Speed 2.80GHz x 2
    RAM Memory 512MB
    Hard Disk Capacity 200GB
    CD/DVD Drive Type DVD +/-RW/DVD +
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Media Centre -Vista Free Upgrade

Speakers Amplified Stereo speakers, USB 8 channel

I think Aldi will be looking around this pricepoint on the PC..

  • PC systems from Aldi come without monitors. No problem if you're switching one system for another - keep your old monitor. Or you can choose what you want - 78" wall mounted, if you like - and buy it separately.
