Looks interesting. Will need to get a mic working on my PC but will try it out over the w/end."There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children; one of these is roots, the other wings" - Hodding Carter

Today I have received an e-mail from 1899.com:
You can now make the cheapest phone calls with your PC. Just download
1899Voip here http://www.call1899.co.uk/voip.php . Plug in a headset and
a microphone in your computer and you are set to go
Nowhere else will you be able to find such fantastic Voip rates (and no
connection fees!):
Germany 0p per minute!
Netherlands 0p per minute!
UK 0p per minute!
Remember; NO connection fees
Yes, zero pence per minute!
Kind Regards,

Just tried with my own home phone and my broadband connection and everything works perfectly. So you can enjoy free calls anytime,anyday0 -
I've also just set this up and tested it! I was logging on to MSE with the intention of leaving a post telling everyone - but someone beat me to it!
This is an amazing service. Free anytime UK calls via your broadband connection. So everyone who got one of the free headsets from BT can make good use of them!
Woohoo! I love saving money!

Can you still use this if you're not with BT broadband though?Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

You don't have to have BT broadband to use VOIP (or any broadband, it works on dial up as well)
The advantage of using it with broadband is that you will always be connected, so incoming calls to your pc will get through.0 -
I'm a little confused, I can see the calls prices are cheaper, but off the top of my head, calling Spain is 1p a minute, which is the same as calling spain from a landline - ok, bar the 3p connecttion charge!
Do they offer a facility where you can call other people using the software for free?
if not, then what is the point, surely Skype is a better solution?

Skype is free anywhere when you make a PC-PC call. 1899 offers you a PC-phone call (Skype can do this, but it's more expensive).
But I can be wrong.0 -
Just checked the itemised calls and 1899 have charged me 3p connection charge for VoIp to UK landlines. I have sent them query about that and waiting for reply.0
