Does anyone here have a good recipe for chilli jam? My OH is making some with his precious homegrown chillies so any tips greatly appreciated.

I made some of this today, to give for Christmas presents but somehow it has set a bit too much and is very thick, almost solid!
Would you still give it as a present? You can spoon it out of the jar, its just not the consistency I think it should be. It was quite expensive to make (relatively) due to having to use 8 red peppers @ 80p each so I dont really want to have to make it again. Hi Tiff, I would spread some on a slice of toast and do a taste test.If you manage to eat the whole slice of toast it should be fine as a pressant.
People will give thought to your gift and know you have used your skills in the kitchen to make a presant just for them.If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

Right, i recently made Nigellas chilli jam and found it so easy and tasty I am going to make it again.
I really liked how easy it was to make - no faffing about with thermometers , muslin etc.
Now, I am wondering this. Could i just substitute something else to make another kind of jam? I imagine sweet onion jam would be yummy - and i would use red onions - but would i use the same quantity as is suggested for the chilli jam?
Anyone think of anything else that could be Jammified? It's this specific recipe I like, i just wonder what else i could substitute the chilli and peppers with.A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I did this one from GMTV. Everyone loved it, it seems to go with everything as well. I didn't bother with a thermometer (haven't got one:D) and found I had to boil it for longer than it said. Surprisingly it's not too hot.
In fact it was watching Nigella make it a couple of days later that inspired me to.0 -

IMHO, this is the best chilli jam recipe ever :j
2 -4 chillies depending on taste
4 cloves garlic
1 thumb size piece of ginger - shredded
750g tomatoes
2 tablespoons fish sauce
100ml red wine vinegar
300g sugar
Put half the tomatoes, fish sauce, vinegar, garlic, chilli & ginger in blender or food processor & blend.
Chop the rest of the tomatoes & mix with the sugar & blended mix.
Bring to the boil & simmer for 1-1.5 hours
Leave to cool for about 30mins & put into clean warm jars.
This doesn't make much, about 3 jars, but is well worth it.0 -
