  • After watching Lorraine Pascal the other night I decided I'd try the Chilli Jam, last years effort was a bit disappointing (Nigellas)

It is absouletly gorgeous and cost me next to nothing. Used my own grwon tomatoes and chillies, already had balsamic and sugar in, so only had to buy garlic and an inch of ginger.

I couldn't find the recipe online so had to get it off iplayer

    450gms tomatoes
    2 chilli
    2 cloves garlic
    1 inch ginger
    60ml balsamic
    250gm granulated sugar

blitz everything in a food processor then boil 25-30mins

    simple recipe and gorgeous

    Hi Diane,

I've added your recipe to our existing chilli jam thread so that other Old Stylers will be able to find it easily.

My chillies were bunged in the freezer last year as we were away with DS2 in hospital when they were ready and they are superhot..in fact I labelled them 'Evil Chillies' just in case I forgot threw too many in something:rotfl:

I was just looking at the chilli jam recipe from mondays prog and thought I have everything in but my chillies in the greenhouse aren't quite ready so *finally* my question :D do you think it'd be ok to use frozen chilli in this??
They were frozen raw but deseeded.

I do jam with frozen fruit so think it'd keep okay as that always does..
  • I think they will be fine in a chilli jam recipe. Just the same as using frozen veg really.

  • Just noticed this thread as I saw the recipe. Can't post links as I'm a new user, but it's on celebrity kitchen (do a search for "asian chilli jam celebrity kitchen" or something)

Haven't tried it yet, but looks nice. Some people have mentioned that it comes out a bit runny. Could it be the water in the tomatoes? maybe I'll try only putting the fleshy parts of the tomatoes in?

Will give it a try and post back with result...

    Hi all,

    Just a quick question :)

I've got a recipe for a chilli jelly which sounds really nice so I've started making it. The first step was to boil apples with water until they broke down, mash them and then allow to drain through muslin/jelly bag. I dont have a jelly bag so just drained through a tea towel and 2 layers of old cotton fabric (clean, of course!)

I was really careful to not squeeze the pulp but somehow the liquid is still cloudy. So, my question is, what can I do to clear this that doesn't involve a great expense? Can I perhaps get some coffee filters and let it drip through one of those?

    Thanks,

    Kevin
