Mine never set... well... after lots more boiling I ended up with chilli toffee sauce!
Boohoo... still seeking a reliable recipe that tastes like the one EPC used to make!My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Ive never had the EPC version but this one is very good http://www.cottagesmallholder.com/piquant-apple-chilli-jelly-recipe-501 I needed to add more chillies though as there wasnt enough heat (I like things with quite a kick)0

Hi Folks,
I'm looking for a wee bit of advise on here....
A couple of weeks ago I made some of Nigella's Chilli Jam - I followed the recipie and instructions (although I did have to transfer the sugar and vinegar to a bigger pan - not sure if this had any effect on the process). Anyway, I have 'bottled' 5 jars but the consistency seems very runny for a 'jam'. Its a bit like thick chilli sauce.
As this is my first time making anything like this, I'm not sure if this is how it's supposed to be, or whether I've done something wrong?
I did find a GMTV clip on Youtube where they made the same thing, and it did look like mine, but I'm still unsure if this is correct.
I'm planning to give this as presents for Christmas and don't know whether I should try making another batch (although this would leave me with lots spare) or whether what I've cooked up is ok?Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

I made some last year, and others had said it was runny, so I overcooked mine, and it crystallised
Tasted fab, though!
I'd label it as Chilli Dipping Sauceand would be delighted to receive a jar.
More in this thread, if you want to have a browse; I'll merge this one later.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -

Thanks so much - just had a quick read through and it seems I'm not the only one left a bit confuddled by the recipieI did try a little before jarring it up and prob would add some more chilli next time.
You're right, I think I will label it up (and as some of the others said on the thread too), hopefully people will be pleased to receive the fruits of my labour. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that although there weren't many ingredients, the per jar cost is actually quite high (though not compared to what you might spend in the shop for a 'home made' jam)
Planning to make Winter Chutney too as soon as I see some fresh cranberries in the shops.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Hi kerri,
zippychick brought me a jar of this last year and it was much 'sloppier' than jam....but oh my goodness did it taste good! My lot all loved it, so it's what it tastes like that's most important.
I've been promising to make it ever since. Needless to say I haven't got around to it yet.So thanks for the reminder, I think I'll have to get some of my chillies out of the freezer and do it this weekend.

I have made Nigella chilli jam & this one
http://recipes.dailymail.co.uk/recipe/8624/sweet-chilli-jam
& the one above is MUCH nicer (& cheaper to make).
I use jam sugar instead of golden.0 -
I made it last year and again this year. It was running but as the weather cooled it set some more like a runny jam. I wasn't bothered about it being runny as I made it to replace buying the chilli dipping sauce
It tastes great and I found it really cheap to make too. Also used jam sugar as Mrs E didfinal unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -
Thanks for the recipie Mrs E, that version does look delicious - and the idea of using jam sguar is great. I will definietly try that version.
If you can't find a can of cherry tomatoes, would normal plum tomoates work do you think? (I don't think I've ever seen canned cherry tomatoes, although I've never actually looked for them so chances are I've waslked past them 100 times lol!)Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

I make gallons of Nigella's Chilli Jelly every year.....form home grown chilis and it's a resounding success with everyone....I stop some before it is at setting point and bottle it as a Chilli Drizzle - and then cook the rest and jar it as jam.
You have to use Jam sugar and make sure it is at jam setting point or it really is too runny. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0
