What's this all about?

Until 25 August, Nectar is halving the number of points needed to redeem specific rewards, making this the right moment to cash your stash.
There's a different theme each week, luckily they're pre-announced, so you can plan ahead (all are listed at the bottom of this post)

I'll include a reminder note in each week's email.... if you don't get that.... then its about time ;) its free and ad free just go to MoneySavingExpert.com/tips

How to redeem

Just go to the Nectar Website and click on the promotion

Further Info

It's also worth reading Loyalty Schemes. Tricks to improve your stash of Nectar, Airmiles, Tesco & others, which details a range of generally available loopholes to increase your points stash.

The Current Deals

August 19 - August 25

50% more value at Adams.

Between these dates go online and order your vouchers and you'll get 50% more value; so 500 nectar points = £7.50 instead of the usual £5 to spend in Adams store. The vouchers will be sent to you and must be spent before 31 October 2006.

This is a cracking deal, because when you normally redeam in Adams points are worth twice the value that they are in any other store. With this promotion they're worth three times as much.

August 5 - August 18

2 for 1 on movie and game rentals at Blockbuster. Simply take your nectar card with you, get the cashier to swipe it and your points will be automatically deducted.

If you haven't got a membership with Blockbuster just take a debit or credit card with you and they'll register you on the spot.

  • A tad dissapointing on the wine front, the stuff you'd want to drink (IMHO)doesn't have any points discount

Um you could be right about the wine but it didn't stop me from ordering the dozen summer whites. It did say 'guaranteed to impress' I believe, so wonder what Laithwaites would do if I say 'I wasn't too impressed actually' ??
  • Well I order a lot of wine on line, and to be fair, if I've had a bad bottle, or something I just didn't like, I've never had a problem getting a replacement or refund. I've always been pleasantly surprised that the mail order wine companies have this policy for something that is so subjective.

I guess I'm just a bit cynical, when I see only certain lines being discounted I assume it must be something the retailer can't shift, or it's something they're already making an obscene profit on.

I was slightly disappointed that there was only one choice of case discounted but took the plunge anyway as I am having some friends round for a barbecue on Sunday. The case arrived today - Laithwaites are always quick, and I havent had a bad bottle yet. looking at the descriptions, it looks slightly more interesting than I originally thought though I imagine that it is a combination of mark ups and the need to shift large volumes quickly (most is stuff that needs to be drunk in the next year or so )

List of wines included and link to review on Laithwaites page (obviously they are not going to say it isnt a good wine)

    Whites:
Pavillon de lobre 2005 £4.58 (Award winner)
Cavazzola NV £4.19 (needs to be drunk before end of year)
Colombard Chardonnay 2005 £6.58 (I have had this before I think and liked)

    Reds
    Il Poggio £4.92
    Vega Robledo £5.75
Reserve des Dames de l'Aire 2004 Corbieres £5.50

I am fairly pleased with this - nothing to get overly excited about though the Chardonnay and Corbieres will be good I should imagine. I was going to order some wine anyway though I would have bought one of the other cases. For everyday drinking wine though this will do.

Why didn't they do this a week or 2 ago?? I ordered the gazebo for it's full value! I was pleased I got it, but annoyed now it's 1/2 the points!!!!!

Still at least I can now plan what to do with the rest of my points instead.

How do we think "50% more value" for the Adams for Kids offer will translate into real terms?

If 250 Nectar points currently translates to one £5 voucher, do you think (or better still does anybody know!), if they will translate to £7.50's worth of vouchers. I would have thought it rather unlikely - as Adams exchange rate is already the best there is - but it does say "50% more value"!!

Or does it mean that one £5 Nectar voucher buys £7.50's worth of goods - which is of course the same thing!

    Ideas anyone?

I have no idea.....but I want to know this too. I use Adams with my vouchers too (hate paying full price for childrens clothes) (for anything really!!).
Pity they only take the vouchers as I keep on forgetting to ask for them from Sainsburys ready for a spree.

freebie_junkie - if you go to the Loyalty Schemes. Tricks to improve your stash of Nectar, Airmiles, Tesco & others article - you'll see there's a calculator which tells you exactly how much points are worth from lots of schemes
