Tiger's Wedding Thread

Hi everyone just thought I would add our wedding story and update it as we go along. We are having a very typical MSE wedding. Our budget is £2,000 and we are having 50 guests in total, 22 for the ceremony and then the rest for the reception.

We booked the registrar and the venue yesterday, very excited lol, and paying the deposit for them next week.

The theme is burgundy and crystals as we are getting married on the 5th December and would like it to be quite Christmassy.

So far, we have decided that we will be getting married at 4.30pm with a few drinks in the bar of the hotel afterwards, then at 7.30pm the reception will start where we are having a hot and cold buffet and a dj. The hotel is really contemporary as has just finished being refurbished to a four star hotel and it is gorgeous.

My dress will be from Landy as will the bridesmaids, there will be two my best friend and my sister, and my 18 month daughter will be a flowergirl. The mens suits will be from asda or somewhere similar, black with burgundy ties which I have found on Ebay for £3.49 each.

I think I will have silk flowers, red roses with diamante pins. If anyone has ordered any like this could you let me know prices and where you got them from as it would be lovely for them to look as real as possible. The bridesmaids flowers will be ivory roses in a handtied posy. The men will have a red rose buttonhole and HTB will have a double rose, one ivory and one red.

I have ordered the invitation bits from Ebay and they should arrive today, YAY! Ivory cards with ivory inserts which I will print at home. I have found a gorgeous pic of a red rose on a black and white background, someone else had done this in another thread so thanks for the idea, and am going to print it on photo paper, stick it on the card and finish with one stick on diamante at the bottom corner.

Have ordered the my daughter's head band, an ivory band with an ivory rose, from Ebay for the bargain price of £1.20.

We will be making the cake ourselves, well myself and my bridesmaid, it' going to be a cupcake one on a stand with a top tier from a supermarket decorated with diamante and red rose petals. I have tested recipes and have decided on lemon sponge and chocolate frosting.

The tables are going to be decorated with pillar candles with diamante pins stuck in the them and rose petals and diamantes around the bottom. Have ordered the diamantes from Ebay and they were very reasonable. I might finish off with tiny battery operated fairy lights on the tables but these aren't a necessity and will only get them if the budget allows, they will be £25 in total.

So that's what I have for now. There are 8 months to go so hopefully we can do it. Please add advice and info if you wish and I will update as I go alng, Tiger x:T

For artificial flowers try sarahs flowers online. I saw this site advertised in a wedding magazine at the weekend and quite a few of the arrangements included crystals/pearls etc. I saw some lovely ideas on there which i am going to consult my florist with.

Although it is meant for children, but it's perfect. What do you think, could adults carry this one?

  • Hi Picklepick, we are in Cumbria. The hotel only charges for food and drink so we get the room hire for free, big saving. As we are only having 50 guests for the reception and the buffet is £13.50 a head it works out at just under £700, the dj is £150, but we are going to see if we can get one cheaper, and the registar is £295. So that's leaving us with around £800 for everything else. And as we are making as much as possible it should be doable. I have budgeted everything and it comes in at £2,000.

Thought about making the bouquet but can't find any flowers cheap enough yet.

I hope the thread gives you loads of mse ideas, Tiger x

Hobbycraft do bouquets and flowers separately! Posies and buttonholes too, and the buttonholes are only 99p!
I've looked on ebay for flower ideas and there are some good sellers with 100% feedback and they are quite reasonably priced and some sellers do packages with the bouquets and posies!
  • Hi JayJay is hobbycraft an online store? Have you had flowers from there and are they quite real looking? Thanks for the tip x

Hobbycraft is online but has a very limited online selection. It is better to go to the store if you have access to one.
I would say they are quite good and i am a very fussy person lol. I am going to get my buttonholes from there you can't go wrong for 99p!

Hi Tiger, i looked at the first one you mentioned for my own wedding and have just asked the florist what i would be looking at to make it with fresh flowers however she mentioned using roses would mean mega bucks as they are £1.50 a head, could i consider carnations. I mentioned aswell wanting a car display and was quoted at roughly £40-£60 a foot. Hope this helps when pricing your own up.
