Well just to let you know my experience with Barclays so far.............
The branch were great and helpful. i gave then all my details including an extra piece of paper with additional addresses on.
The lady compiled it in front of me and put it in the envelope and all done.
Its been 2 weeks since so i called yesterday 3 times. Got 3 different answers and even told at one point that they had not receieved the application at all. They are hopeless i will tell you that.
Today i called again and have now been told that they have not recieved the extra addresses and they have sent the application back in the post. They said when they receieve back they will start the process again taking another 2 weeks.
Anyway i made a complaint as my data must have been lost by then and they told me that you can only get a cash card account by post even if you go in branch. I sure i read on here people who had gone into branch?
Anyway i decided to get the nearest big town branch to give me a call which they have within 30min (Hurry customer from them at last)
They say i can have an appointment tomorrow with them and that they will do it all in the bank for me.............................Lets hope i can i will report back on how i get on............:money:
But for all you out there wanting an easier life apply for the Co-op cashminder. :rotfl:

Hi k2nga
You're not the only one if that makes you feel any better!?!
I applied in the branch and was declined. Enquired later on the phone as to why I was declined and I was told that there was no application. I went back to the branch and they could not find me on their system (even though I had credit cards with them). I applied again, but declined due to being bankrupt, unemployed and having a CCJ. I don't have a CCJ, you're allowed an account if you're bankrupt and I have income. So I was told to apply by post but they didn't have any application forms. I went back into the branch today there was no record of me on their system again! Anyway, I've applied by post today so we'll see what happens.
I have a Co-op, which I'm quite happy with, but I would also like a second account for household expenses. Co-op was definitely much easier to open. Just one phone call and it was all done.0 -
dvs,
Yeah same reason as me i want an account that i can bills from for the family instead of it being mine and me not knowing what money i hav.
Did they try and set you up an account in branch ever or had it alway been by post
It mad that Co-op can do it on the phone but barclays need a tree of paperwork and then takes 2 weeks and then will only write for you to have write back.
What a great Environmental Policy.....:cheesy: K2nga :cheesy:

They input the application on the system when I went to the branch (which was declined). The call centre told me to go to back to the branch to get a paper application but the branch didn't have any so they tried on the system again (which was declined). The branch eventually got an applcation form in and I sent this off but have yet to hear back. Not hopeful though!
Interestingly, records of me seem to have been deleted but the searches appeared on my cedit file so I know that they did try.0 -
Well i went into branch and filled out the application with a personal banker who was really helpful and nice i did tell her i was BR and she said that should not be a problem as the Card Cash account is for people like me. Declined came up on the screen......
The lady tried to look up the declined code and had not seen it before so she went to see her manager and she did not know it either so she asked me to sign all the form and she would call HQ to find out why and call me.
I never made it back to the car and she phone me to say that i was declined because i was BR. lol she could not believe it as that was what the account was for.
She said that she was told to appeal it and i should get the account although its unlikely they would let me have the connect card for a few months but at least i would have an account......................Seems silly to have an account for BR's which rejects you when the system finds out you are BR.lol
Anyway she is going to call me on Tuesday and i will know more then but one thing i would say is if you get declined pop into branch and explain and ask if they can check your details and appeal for you.:cheesy: K2nga :cheesy:

I wonder if there has been a change in policy as it was not so long ago that everyone seemed to be able to get an account?
There were several reason codes that came up when I was declined, one of which was because I was a bankrupt and another was because it said I had a CCJ. I don't have a CCJ and even if I did, it wouldn't matter if I was a bankrupt. I have checked my credit files with Experian and Equifax and neither show a CCJ or any CIFAS information. Equifax doesn't even show that I am BR.
One thing that might be of interest is that I was told by the call centre that I would need to send proof of my bankruptcy with the application as that would then prove that I had no debts at the time of bankruptcy. Will wait to see what happens as I think it will be useful for people to know what the score is with applying for a Barclays account.0 -
nah no change in policy, however you may find its due to working through two different systems. The new system declines without giving options where the old system you can just apply for cash card.
couple of points: 1) you can apply for cash card accounts in branch, although normally you would be directed to postal applications if you specifically requests its opened there and then for you it will be.
2) make sure you state at the beginning you wish to apply for cash card account so you are not credit scored, although certain checks are still done even with the cash card (CRA checks).
Personally i end up opening a couple of cash card accounts in my branch a week, and to be truthful i probably have 1 decline every 4 months or so. You can check what type of account was applied for you via the application at the branch.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Hi demotw,
Thankyou for your post....I`m amazed how many BB people are on MSE forums!!!
I wonder if the PB gets sales points for the BBA rather than the basic cash card account. I`m sure it is easy where someone asks for a basic account & the PB trys an `upgrade` so that they can say `good news Mr Customer` we can do one better than a basic account etc etc .
In a BR case...we know it will be declined but there are some frontline staff that try it on. Maybe this is another example of that practice. This is just my opinion....& I am a cynic where so called `sales standards ` are concerned at the best of times.
Great to see you ,

Hi demotw
Not sure if you'll be able to shed some light on this. When I went into the bank to apply for the Cash Card account, the adviser found my details on your system and applied then and there. I made it clear that I was bankrupt and so could only have a Cash Card account. It was declined which took her by surprise. I checked my credit file and it shows as a search for a current account.
When I went back to the branch to get a paper application, there were no details of me (neither my two credit cards, nor my previous application). I was told this was not normal. The adviser didn't have any paper forms so said she could try again. It was declined again and I think 4 reason codes came up. Bankruptcy, CCJ, Unemployed and does not meet requirements. Obviously we knew about the bankruptcy but I don't have any CCJs (I've checked Equifax and Experian). I do have income. The adviser said the does not meet requirements is to do with the above. Another credit search for current account appeared on my credit file.
I have applied by post now but I wondered if you had any thoughts on the above?0 -
well a credit check shouldnt really have been performed, i find it unusual although not impossible, that it brought up the bankruptcy, it doesnt normally do that for cash card, its difficult without personally seeing your application on the system. i would expect the application was done through gateway however which is barclays new system, which doesnt always offer cash card a/c, it just shows a decline. just make sure the branch uses the old system.
2) as for sale points, makes no difference, cash card = an account, bba = an account, premier = an account so should be no reason. As for upgrade, if you say you have had bankruptcy, its against barclays policy to even try to attempt to upgrade, so they better not.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
