I recently got the Digihome 160 for my birthday. It's a refurbished model but I can thoroughly recommend it - it's great. And I know more about it now thanks to your post MSE Lawrence!0

Saw this on the Asda site today.
DAEWOO DSD9520 80GB FREEVIEW DIGITAL BOX £49.99 (+£7.03 del)
Only single tuner but still seems a good deal.0 -
I've owned a Humax recorder for over two years and would recommend it to anybody, excellent picture quality, amazing features.
Mine cost £180 and is an earlier version with less storage space, still enough to store dozens of programmes and still with free updates.0 -
PS If you buy it new it comes with a two year guarantee.0

also the Humax is set to have a new model released shortly so there may be a few sell-offs of the old 9200 ones so keep an eye out for retailers discounting them or offering promotions
i.e. Martin Dawes were offering the new 9300T at the same price as the 9200T for a short period a fortnight ago0 -
Just a word of caution re, the Humax 9200. We've had one for 18 months now and, yes, it's an easy to use machine BUT we are unable to pick up the same number of channels as we can through a straightforward Freeview box. We've had our house aerial upgraded and had the set looked over by Humax (who returned it to us without any comment about what they had done or what they thought the problem might be). I'm told it's because the Humax has a twin tuner (as do, I believe, all PVR's) and, therefore, requires a stronger signal but given that we look directly at our local transmitter from our garden we couldn't be much closer! (although I suspect there's more to it than that).
Just be aware that there is a chance you might not get as many channels as you expect.0 -
The Humax has a very sensitive tuner, supposedly one of the better regarded ones. Were you able to manually tune any of the channels using the details obtained from the standalone box. Also daft as it sound, being too close to a transmitter doesn't actually make it better, there reaches a point where you are too close and then you will have signal problems as you receive too strong a signal. You may find using an attenuator to reduce teh signal strength may actually work for you (unless you have alreadytried that)

and if you need to pick one up quickly to have a play with Maplins

Thanks Woby_Tide. Yes, we tried manual tuning but for some reason (and despite our proximity to the transmitter) the signal from 2 of the multiplex is too weak despite being perfectly acceptable for our ordinary (non-PVR) freeview box.0

For a penny under £80. Its a Thompson a recognised make but I'm not sure how good it is. There is also a subscrption deal with Sultana, Santana if you want it.
