Re post above - the following should be amended
8. 0845 Local Rate A "A" 4 4 0
to:
8. 0845 Local Rate A "A" 4 4 2
and
9. 0870 National Rate "A" 2 0 0
to:
9. 0870 National Rate "A" 2 0 2
The reason for the alteration is (on checking!!) that re the w/end rates for 0845 and 0870, NTL charges 1.45p/min and 2.99p/min - whereas 18185 charges 1p/min and 2p/min respectively.0 -
Can someone please help me.
I have just signed up for the Just Dial Saver plan for free weekend and evening calls and am also signed up to 1899. Can the dialler box be programmed to call 1899 at certain times of the day/week or not. Someone please explain how it works.
Also, slightly off the subject, who will be cheaperst for lo-cal and 0870 numbers? Will it be BT? Can they be programmed into the dialler box too?0 -

The Orchid dialler box (remember to get your 20% discount if you decide to get one) can be programmed to use up to around 9 different carriers (1899 18866, Just Dial, BT etc etc). Those 9 can be selected to be used, in any combination, at either peak, evening or w/end times.
For 0845 Nos, your best routing would be (for peak, evening and w/end) - Dialaround, BT and BT. For 0870 it should be 18185, BT and BT respectively.
All the above including your question re 1899 can be programmed into the dialler.
The way it works is that you download some software from the Company and from that you can program whatever combination of carriers and routing you want. That info is then sent by you back to the Co's server. You then get your dialler to dial the Co's server to extract the info you have sent it and that info then gets loaded into your dialler....and off you go....:)0 -
I want to get my parents onto this too. I'm assuming they don't need to have their own PC but that I can do it all for them too?
Do you have links to those other providers you mentioned?0 -
Thanks for your previous help. You seem to know what you are talking about.
Could you give me the list of the provisiers I should use for
peak calls, off peak calls, mobiles - weekends, mobiles - weekdays, 0845, 0870, etc. If you don;t mind.0 -

Yes you can - re your parents but if they live miles away you should teach them how to "force dial" their dialler (ie collect info from the Orchid server for their dialler) - otherwise you will have to go and do it yourself!

Try reading posts 411 and 412 above. Although they are for an NTL cable set up (where slightly different rates apply) they generally hold good for BT lines. You will also need to blend in your Just Dial Saver rates. Broadly speaking you should use 18866/1899 for 01/02nos during the week (at peak times) and depending on what Just dial charge you for evening and weekend calls decide which carrier is best for you at those times.
For mobiles use 1899 for peak day time and 18185 for weekends. Depending on what network you are calling you might find that Just Dial is slightly cheaper in the evenings than the 10p/min charged by 1899....so your dialler would need to be adjusted accordingly.0 -
Oh my word, this is soooo complicated.
I've just been looking at the dialler boxes. Now obviously, I need the one which you can enter the time/day etc. byt do I really need the V4 plus thing which keeps the time correct? It is starting to get costly!!
Thanks for all help by the way.0 -

It's worth perservering. You will probably recoup the cost of the Orchid in less than a month through the savings you make on your phone bill.

But what about the V4plus item? Is it really necessary??0
