savingsgirl wrote:DChurch thank you so much I am so grateful for all your advice I have read on here. I didnt even write a letter to my bank - just fired off an email and they have just written to me offering me £643 (I only thought it was £354!!).
Mr Savingsgirl is amazed and I am over the moon. Thank you thank you thank you
If they are offering you that there may be a lot more charges that you are unaware of .Maybe a DPDR would end up being well worth the £10 cost .Wish I could stop editing EVERY post I make :mad:0 -
To be totally honest I am more than happy with this. I am now sorting out Mr Savingsgirl bank charges.
This account was my old current account from yeras ago and it only had a couple of DD coming out that I had forgotten about for about £9 each and I had let it go overdrawn by accident.
I have had a look and this is def more than the bank charges so I will settle with this, close the account and feel inwardly smug. I do appreciate your advice but I really do think I got a fab solution!Auntie Savingsgirl 24/9/06 :j0 -
As long as you feel you have benefited thats all that matters. All we are saying is there may be more that you are entiteled to, thats why they offered that amount straight away...
Still waiting for mine tho...0 -
Tried to get a list of my charges from Intelligent Finance  by emailing them using their messaging system a few weeks back. Both times had a fairly bland response  explaining that I would need to pay their usual charges (£10) for each statement blah blah blah...
This month I went £20 over my £500 overdraft and received a letter charging me £28!!!
So phoned them today and got through to a call centre advisor (conscious effort not to get angry at the lovely scottish lady :A at the call centre as she is just doing her job and following the IF  script!) and just came out with my request for a list of all my charges. Explained that I had heard that people were claiming back charges, that I was entitled to this information under the Data Protection Act and basically most of the stuff on these threads....bish bash bosh and she is saying that this will be sent out to me....I checked again that she heard me correct about the charges..and she said yes :j .
So hopefully by next week I will have received the charges information and will start reclaiming them back :T (If I don't then I take it back about the lovely scottish lady at the call centre)
Will keep you updated......what a great site this is!!!0 -
Just got a letter today offering a full £165 refund of all charges going back to 2000.
They state thwy are paying it as it would costthem too mcuh to challenge it if it went to court, although they beleive they would win any case, as athey state the charges openly.
Iam going to accept it becasue I need the money, but its a result.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
Hi Gary,
I am glad I have just read your thread as I am thinking of trying to re-claim my bank charges from the Nationwide, and seeing that you were successful I think I will. Just a couple of questions if you don't mind, how long did the whole process take you and did they repay all of your charges or did you come to some arrangement with them. They have charged me loads since I joined them 5 years ago, for going over my agreed overdraft, for unpaid direct debits etc.
let me know what you think
Thanks Jodie0 -
Mine took around 2 month to get the reply offering me the money back, they offered the full amount straight up. You would be much better sending them a DPDR letter , recorded delivery, and including the £10. That way they can't give you the run around as they will have 40 days to comply.Letter template available in the libary of https://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk .It is not your statements you need to ask for as they do incur an individual charge, you are saying you will accept statements. As I have said on many occasions it is all in the wording.Wish I could stop editing EVERY post I make :mad:0 -

First congratulation
Bit lost to you saying you have been offered the full amount you claimed for and have decided to accept .Why wouldn't you ?
Some people think they can hold out for the 8% interest that is not true.If you are offered the full amount of your claim then you must accept it.You can only claim the 8% interest if you have to put a claim into court because they have not offered you the full amount your claiming.Wish I could stop editing EVERY post I make :mad:0 -
Many thanks to all on this board and indeed to Martin for all his hard work on this website in general.
Have requested information from Egg, Cahoot and First Direct so far. Egg seem to be behaving and have told me they will be providing the requested information within the next 4-5 days on the basis of a couple of secure-messages through their website.
Cahoot are playing silly games at the moment and "as a gesture of good will" will provide the information for £180 instead of £360 ! (£5 / statement for 6 years.) Informed them that they have a statutory obligation to provide said information for £10 and now a "Team co-ordinator" has taken "full ownership" of my "concerns" !Will let you all know how they respond in future !
My reason for posting on here is primarily the response I have recieved from FirstDirect. They have said that they can only provide information for the past 3 years. I am sure that they must hold information for longer than this. Anyone got any suggestions / reasons for this ? Or any basis for me to insist that they must hold this information somewhere ?
Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can give.0
