my wifes glasses arrived today from https://www.goggles4u.com . excellant quality and perfect prescription.
ordered about 11pm on thursday, arrived this morning (tuesday).
made and delivered from pakistan with free scratch protection and tinting in 4 days. all for £12.99.
    very impressive

thats funny cos ive just received mine after a 15 day wait, the prescription is wrong, the lenses should be clear and they have a tint and one of them is scratched !!!!

Can anyone suggest a good way of measuring up for glasses. I only wear contact lenses, but need some of these cheap glasses to give my eyes a rest!

I had just been quoted £400 for a pair which is stupid seeing as I will probably sit on them.

This goggles4u looks good, but I am a bit unsure what size I should be looking at.

I don't really want to go into an optician to get measured if possible.

    Cheers

I contacted goggles4u last night and received a reply really quickly, he went through the basic check to make sure that i wasnt mistaking a coating for a tint (i sent a photo they couldnt really deny it !) and then this morning i got a reply to say all there fault and to email 2 frame choices and they will replace ASAP !!!

im very chuffed with the service and the quality of what did arrive was very good,

I will update when the new ones get here

Hope you have more luck than me with them on that!

I ordered a pair and when they arrived the prescription was wrong so they asked me to e-mail another frame choice, which I did. The glasses never turned up so i e-mailed them again. Firstly they asked me to wait for a few more days, which I did. I e-mailed them arfter about 10 days and they said they have no control over their parcels and asked me for 2 frame choices - that was a month ago.

I have e-mailed them again last night to see what is happening but I'm not holding out much hope.

I contacted them using the live help, it was very easy and she checked on who was looking into my complaint etc there and then .

It tends to be after 9 ish at night but it means they cant not reply,

keep us updated as this thread has had very mixed views on goggles4u and it would be helpful to see how recent problems get sorted.

  • After a couple times ordering from different online shops.(optical4less,goggles4u,zennioptical and glassesdirect.co.uk) I found that the value and quality from optical4less is the best. the frame quality is as good as famous brands in UK retailers. I would reccommend them to anybody.

They are both two lenses in one, bifocals having a really obvious half moon of different glass at the bottom such as you see old people wearing, but the lens difference in varifocals is invisible, which is much better.

Can anyone advise me the best high street opticians offers at the moment? Had my eyes tested yesterday after a bad experience with online glasses (dont know if it was wrong measurements, prescription or wrong lenses supplied, but after two months struggling I have ditched them).
Its all very well buying online, but with a complicated prescription it is not easy and I cant risk it again. So I need to know who are generally cheapest for varifocal lenses or who has a good offer at the moment. Any ideas? TIA
  • I wouldn't advise the first pair to be bought on-line as its best to be shown how to use them. However, You need to consider the following,

It will depend on the prescription as to what you choose,
If your husband needs them for work or just occasional use,
The money you want to spend (varifocal cost a bit more)

Plus sides to bifocals are :
they are generally easier than varis to adapt to,
they provide a slightly larger reading area,
they have no distortion towards the edge of the lens.

    Downsides are,
The reading segment is a molded piece added onto the lens so it is quite visable and can reflect the light along it in some situations.

There is no correction for intermediate (arms length) so if you use a PC you either have to get closer to the keyboard or further away from the screen.

plus sides to varifocals ; provides intermediate correction with the power of the lens graduating from distance to reading in very small amounts so they can be used for all occasions (in theory)

There is no visable line so cosmetically better,

    Downsides are,
Due to the variation in prescription there are areas of distortion which some people notice more than others, these are at the edge of the lens and mean that you have to point your nose at what you want to focus on ( no sly looking out the corner of your eye !!)

There is loads more i could tell you but my son is pestering me to watch lazytown with him (joy !!) PM me if you want more.
