Taking things from the house when you move?

  • We are going into our house the day before we move in to inspect what they have taken - no doubt they will be pretty petty and take the lot including strip lights out of the garage. Well they have been petty throughout the whole process so I don't expect much else when it comes to moving out!
  • My dad bought a flat to let and the seller took the batteries from the smoke alarm!!

    To be fair it was one of the first things I changed the old one was some sort of cheap and POROUS pine and they had teenage sons - Mrs. B actually got some disposable paper seat covers of her mate before I got around to it. Which made me think why the hell does her mate have a ready supply of disposable toilet seat covers :eek:
    I can understand people changing it, it is just taking it with you that I don't get as it means people pretty much have to run out on moving day and get a new loo seat:)

    I know and of course taking apart your old loo seat on the day you move with all the crevices and screw holes is such a nice thought.

    Some friends have just moved into a new house - the previous owners took the toilet roll holders with them!

    I was talking to a friend about light bulbs and said I have some (low energy) lightbulbs that have lasted years, in fact since I moved in to the house. She asked how I could remember that clearly and I had to admit to needing to get all new lightbulbs in my current house as the vendors decided to take every light bulb with them when they left!!!

    What things have you taken from a house when you moved? Or what things have you had to replace because the vendor has removed them?

    When a friend of mine moved into a new house the previous owner had taken a (fixed in, gas) fire and several doors with her.:eek: She claimed the doors had never been there in the first place and that the movers had disconnected the fire and taken it 'by mistake'.:rotfl:

    I took 2 rechargeable batteries out PP3 as there expensive. I replaced them with new batteries not cheapo ones but not top priced either, while at it I dropped the alarm on floor so had to go to Woolies and buy a new one £5.99

    The last house we bought, the previous owners absolutely stripped the place. We moved in one week before Christmas with absolutely nothing. They had asked us to pay for the fitted carpets (!); we laughed and said the deal was off if they weren't included, and that set the tone for the rest of the deal. :cool:

    When we moved out two months ago, we left quite a bit of stuff as we were going into rented, but we would have left the curtain rods, etc anyway as it's not like they would fit any new house we bought, plus I'd feel sorry for the new owners going through what we went through!

    In the new place that we are now buying, the vendors have helpfully written on their fixtures and fittings list, "some" next to what they are including in the sale re. curtain poles, curtains, blinds, lampshades, etc. It would be pretty helpful to know WHICH ones, IYKWIM. :confused: But we can't be bothered to enquire - it would only mean more solicitor's fees. So it will be a surprise on the day lol.

    London Reds (Bricks) = £1.10 each

    Yellows = .25 pence each

    Should I replace my walls before the buyers move in?
