Sky Replacement Card

  • That's right, as long as your 'Freesat from Sky' card is under 3 years old; otherwise, it's £20.

For Sky Pay Once Watch Forever customers Sky has finally conceded defeat and decided to send all of them the free replacement viewing card they are entitled to for the first five years after install under the terms and conditions of this product.

As they were having a lot of trouble identify who the Pay Once Watch Forever customers who did not become paying subscribers after the four or six month free trial for some of their Mixes actually were it does not seem impossible that Sky may simply now send a replacement viewing card to any ex subscriber who has been a subscriber in the last five years. In many ways it is in their commercial interest to do so as otherwise anyone suddenly wanting to resubscribe for the test cricket or Dakar rally etc gets told they can't watch it today as they have to wait two weeks for a new viewing card. They may then tell Sky they don't want to resubscribe.

So my advice to anyone who is a former Sky subscriber buit not a Freesat From Sky or Pay Once Watch Forever customer is not to pay out £20 for a replacement card and wait till at least the end of January to see if you get sent one automatically. Sky certainly appear as though they won't be turning off the old cards until the end of January at the earliest now.

We very rarely watch tv but our son mentioned there was a message informing us to purchase a new one a few weeks ago. When went to watch tv the other night we can't get any channels now as they come up saying we no longer subscribe.

Does this mean our service has been discontinued and unless we purchase a iewing card or a freeview box this will be the case?

The card only provides a few extra channels and regionalisation of BBC and ITV. Exactly what channels have you lost?

my mum replaced her card, cost nearly £20, the card came and you (she) have to ring them up again to activate it, if you do not activate the card you lose itv 1 and several others fiver USfiver, i think.

now the cost of it all.

    my mum.

nearly £10 to gett through to sky, premium rate number.
    £19 for replacement card
phone call to freesat sky upon arrival of card and nearly another £10 on phone in queue and the process of activation so all in all costs around £40 to replace your viewing card.

Last time this came up, the solution was to sign up to one of the premium services, whichever is the cheapest for the minimum term.

    The options are at https://mysky.sky.com/replacecard/providers

If you can find one at say £5 per month for a minimum one month, that's £15 saved over what Sky want!

Was her box a desubscribed ex Sky subscription box or a Freesat From Sky or Sky Pay Once Watch Forever box. If it was either of the latter two kinds she shouldn't have had to pay at all for a replacement Sky viewing card.

I agree that Sky's 0844 number is charged at a premium rate of 5p per minute that is excluded from landline and mobile call packages. But £10 implies a total call time of around 3 hours and 20 minutes. Did it really take that long to order the replacement card? Or was she called on a mobile phone that charge 20p per minute for 0845 calls?

Why did she need to call when the new card arrived? Take old card out of slot. Put new card in slot. Job finished as new card does not require any activation beyond putting it in the slot on the Sky box in order to work.

According to the bumph that comes with them, they do need activating over the phone.

    Mine did.

Nollywood Movies. £5.99 per month. Minimum period 2 months. Payment by Paypoint, so no problem of recurring credit card payments.

What part of the bumph would that be exactly?

On the whole I would have thought subscribing to 2 or 3 Mixes for a month and then unsubscribing was a better bet if there are any programs in those Mixes you might want to watch for a month.

Nollywood Movies is a very minority taste and there might also be further issues with resubscribing to Sky itself using one of their viewing cards if one needs to do so at any point. Having said that unsubscribing from Sky itself is like breaking out of jail and usually needs an email or two to jeremy.darroch@bskyb.com in order to be successfully accomplished.
