What would stop cats using the garden as a toilet?

Does anyone have any advice as to how to stop the local cat population of using my garden as a toilet. No problem with the backgarden as I have got a dog and he keeps them well clear. But the front garden is another problem. Dont get me wrong am not a cat lover but I dont want to hurt them I just want them to do their business elsewhere.

Any ideas?????

We planted Lavendar Plants around our garden, and the cats hate them lol, Fairly cheap to buy aswell, (around £2 for a plant). They grow really quickly too and spread themselves out, so I wouldn't plant more than 2 in the same spot.
  • Thanks for the advice I'll pop to B&Q the weekend. PF

Hi, i posted about this the other day, anyways I use Garlic. If you buy cloves of garlic and then cut it up into small pieces (littler the better, but dont crush) and sprinkle that around your garden and the cats wont use your garden as a litter tray.
Make sure you clean the area first, maybe just scoop it up and throw it in next doors garden ;)
I treated my pots quite some time ago and cats have never been back.

I've never heard of lavender making any difference (well I've got lavender and my cats don't seem mind it).

I know for a fact that they don't like citus smells (one of mine hates bananas, but I think she's just weird!).

I laugh when I see people putting orange peel around the place - my cat Sally rushes up to lick my fingers clean every time I peel an orange. :)

    LOL!! Gotta love em!
  • Supersoaker 5000 water pistol out of the upstairs bedroom window..... make sure it has a decent range so you can follow it up the street. Takes some time to persuade them that they're gonna get soaked if they come to your garden but it does work (and it's great fun :D)

I have a lavender hedge round the whole of my garden - makes no difference to cats.

The only thing I have found to work is the orange peel, I scatter small bits around the garden it does work for me. Cats were taking a short cut through my garden and using it as a toilet on their way. They do not any more
  • get a sprayer and put a mix of orange and lemon in it. spray around the garden. they dont like citrius.

or turn the hose on them, owners get a bit narky if the catch you though.

    Good luck
    That mrs macchicken to you!
