In Martin's current article about students bank accounts he mentions Natwest and says use them to take your overdraft upto the max and put your students loan into a high interest account. Does natwest expect you to use the Natwest account as your main account and pay your loan into it? I guess you could go along with that and then move your money into a higher interest account. if your overdraft ran close to the max of £1500 you could move some cash back into it to keep just within the limits. Wil that work? I see Martins new article is coming out soon. Its good timing as my daughter starts uni in Septempber. Where is the best place to move your student loan money to at the momemnt?

Just for information i have called Natwest about their student account, and you cannot actually open the account until you get your results.

You need a letter from UCAS which comes the day after you receive your results and then they will then be able to open your account, so both staff members i spoke to in branch didnt seem to know the exact requirements. But i guess that happens when it has only just been released

So i don't know what other banks require but UCAS letter (after you have received your results) is needed for Natwest!

I'm already a NatWest customer, would I need to go in & ask to change to a Student Account?
Customer Services - what a joke!

Yes you would Panda Miranda - do it sooner and you get the int free overdraft earlier :)

In theory, yes, or just click on the link about half way down at:
    http://www.natweststudents.com/HTML_version/

I already had a Natwest account as well (Card Plus) but the retards in branch can't seem to sort it out. Been there twice so far to ask, and it's always "in the post".

That's not exactly true. If it is, I need to know your Natwest contact!

I spoke to the lending department on the phone earlier today. I can't ask (or expect) it until September this year (start of course terms).

Ok, Martin has just done his latest article regarding Student Accounts for this year, which i am very interested in.

Hopefully Martin will read this (well done on your ITV series btw)

But i went to Natwest to open up a stdent account, after getting everything i needed etc to open the account as per the little booklet. The first lad/man i spoke to said i only needed a conditional offer to open the account. I then went in to open the account, and spoke to a more senior member of staff who then said that i needed an unconditional offer, which i thought was strange.

So i rang up the number on the back of the booklet and they said that you cannot open up an account until the results have come through until you get your results, i.e. 18th August. And received the letter of UCAS to confirm this.

Ok so in the literature it didn't mention eanything like this, and i would rather open the acocunt up in branch rather than on the net just so i can talk about the actual product etc. - as i want to try and get the service card (maestro).

Anyway that aside it seems to conflict with what Martin was saying that we could open the account up when we wanted, as soon as possible, i would have done t his a month ago but was unable to.

Martin, if you are out there, would you be able to confirm this, i.e. speaking to Natwest to see what is infact the right thing, as i have had 3 different insights into the matter; it is just strange that in the literature that it doesn't specify the requirements of having confirmation from UCAS after results have come through.

    Cheers

The above is very annoying as i specifically spoke to NatWest and asked it this very question! I am going to call it now!
